hi all
just a quick question that was on my mind,
what would be faster ,an e39 m5 putting out 500 bhp like the Ascari kz1 s62 v8 in an e39 m5 or the stock e60 m5?

Likely the E39M5 at 500hp, is my guess. Not by much, though. It might be 500hp, but I'd wager that long term reliability, which each 'stock' engine is engineered to have, goes right out the window on the modified v-8.
on the other hand....there is an increase of about 30-35hp on the V-8, with the simple application of the correct headers. Which should partially show why BMW managed to get 500hp from a V-10 5.0 liter engine. So maybe reliability is not as compromised as I would think. But.... the V-8 was not designed to run at 500 hp, whereas the V-10 is.

it would be very interesting to see what with the e39 peak torque at around 4000rpm and the e60 much higher rpm peak,the s62 should be a little quicker.
im sure whatever Ascari have done to modify the s62 they have done it pretty reliably because the car costs £235.000 gbp ,the Ascari kz1 s62 has a "dry sump"?

Its nice to know we drive a car with the same engine as a £235k super car!
The Ascari engine will be tuned along the same lines as Dinans S2 iprobably with a higer rev limit.
Re the 500bhp E39 v E60;
The E39 would take the lead up to 120nph but the E60 would probably match it above or mabe slightly faster because of its higher torque peak and perfect ratios.
I read a thread where Dinan S2 went head to head with a stock E60, and was in the lead up to 120mph. After that, the E60 "walked away". Dinan S2 has 470hp.

Sort of an on subject question, on reliability.
From what I have heard, on the BMW motorcycles they test the motors at ALOT more power then they are sent out with, for example, the 16X-hp K1200S I have heard was spun to over 20krpm, and was (Im guessing some sort of forced induction) tested at over 250hp, for LONG runs on the test stand...
Does the same hold true for the car stuff? Not that I doubt the motor anyways, but if thats true I dont think 500hp would be any compromise to it, or 620 for that matter..
