Re: HELP...Part Number Needed for X5 Thrust Arm Bushings

I went there, but I don't know what the part looks like on the x5...I was thinking this:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=FA93&mospid=47749&btnr=31_0521&hg=31&fg=05&hl=21

part number 31 12 1 124 622

But I wanted to ask and make sure before I order.

That's the control arm bushing your looking at. You need No.7 (31121096372) bushing. Picture No.6 is the thrust arm or radius rod.

Re: HELP...Part Number Needed for X5 Thrust Arm Bushings

The p/n you cite is the "wishbone" (the common name is lower control arm) inner bushing for the V8-powered X5s. On the M5 the wishbone is serviced as an assembly (p/n 31-12-1- 141961/2 for left and right side, respectively). I do not know if the X5 bushing is the same as that used on the M5. It might be. This part seems to fail infrequently.

The "thrust arm" (traction strut on the M5 and tension strut/pull rod on the X5) is a different part. V8 X5s and V8 E39s (incl. M5) use different bushing p/ns. These bushings have significant void content and are known to fail. I do not know if the X5 bushing is stiffer than the M5 bushing. Aftermarket bushings (e.g., PowerFlex) are solid polyurethane.
