Dear M5Board Friends:
Greetings from the BMW Performance Center! It is an exciting time for us at the Performance Center as we are constantly adding new driving events with various venues which led me to this letter. As you know, in 2003, we added to our list of schools the Advanced M Driving Experience at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. In short, it has been met with a huge success! Check out M Enthusiasts post on the first school at Charlotte:

While we will continue to offer the Advanced M Driving Experience on the high-banks of Charlotte, we have recently been approved to add a new venue: the Virginia International Raceway (
www.virclub.com). For those of you not familiar with VIR, this 3.27 mile road course is second to none! I have raced on many road course circuits over my 24 year racing career and none compare to this facility. VIR offers about any kind of a turn you could possibly imagine on a road course with a lot of elevation change. Additionally, we have not just chosen ANY given week-end for this new school. The school will commence during the week-end of the Grand-Am race (
http://www.grand-am.com). While we have yet to finalize the details, we are thinking of meeting our students on Sunday (October 9) prior to the race with your VIP credentials to watch and critique the BMW M3 PTG racing team (
http://www.ptgracing.com/). That night, we will review the race with a brief vehicle dynamics and line talk. The next morning…let the fun begin!! The Advanced M School will be both Monday (October 10) and also Tuesday (October 11) on the same track as the race. Again, you have never seen a road course like VIR! We will be finalizing the details in the coming weeks.
Of course, we are hoping the new M5 with the V-10 (507 hp.) will be part of our fleet; however, we have yet to receive a date regarding those deliveries. But, I can promise you the new M3 with the Competition Package will be there! It was hard for me to imagine that BMW could improve on the current M3….but somehow...they did!
As a result of this being held in conjunction with the Grand-Am race week-end and at VIR, I expect the school to sell out very fast once we publicize the information/details with our reservation desk. Sorry, I do not yet have more details about the school but I wanted to notify those of you from the Board asap. We will probably not publicize the school for several more weeks which gives you a little time to convince your “significant other” that this is something you MUST do! If you have any interest in attending, please drop me an e-mail or give me a call the next few days.
In short, if I do not see you in October, I hope to see you soon at the BMW Performance Center!
Best regards,
Donnie Isley
