Best Driving Road

I don't know if this has been asked before but what is your favourite stretch of road? You know, the one that when you get it right you get to the end with the biggest grin on your face and the adrenalin is making you shake.

My nomination is the road from the A461 (Milton Keynes to Buckingham) to the village of Mursley, Bucks. Where I used to live.

Its a long straight then a drop to a fast righthander then as you start up the hill again it switches to a left then back to a long right. It has been christened Eau Rouge by none other than the resident F1 driver that lives in the village. The road then carries on with high speed corners until you reach the village where, of course, you slow down to 30mph.

James

Maybe we can compile a drivers guide to various parts of the globe.

Re: Best Driving Road

The best of German Autobahn:
The A7 goes from the northern boarder down to the south which is over 900km with barely any limits. Some of you can do it in less than 5hours without breaking the law.

Re: Best Driving Road

I used to live in Osnabruck and regularly went down to Sonthofen, near Oberstdorf. I had my bike then and often did it very, very quickly! He he.

If it was clear enough I could get the needle off the clock. Over an indicated 175mph. The bike was as settled as anything. The whole tunnel vision thing was pretty cool too!

Re: Best Driving Road

Well, I've done some small research work and I came up with this thread . It isn't really about long stretches of road where you can go full throttle, but more about some twisty roads where you can enjoy your M5's handling.

Landy, where exactly does the A7 start and stop. I'd love to go there and do some fast driving every once in a while.

Re: Best Driving Road

@Myron

The A7 starts at Flensburg which is directly at the Danish boarder. Then you go via Hamburg, Hannover, Kassel, Würzburg, Ulm and finally Kempten which is near the Austrian boarder.

There are some limited parts around Kassel, on this part it's twisty and there are some ups and downs so be careful there. Radar is waiting there for you also.

The Autobahn around Kassel is so nice!

I had a real interesting battle between a chipped RS6, E55 and an M5 a couple of months back.

Also the highway from Stuttgart to Singen was nice.

But my vote goes to Nordschleife, Nürburgring.

Do a search for "Great Drive" and you'll find quite a few posts.

Once you're back in the UK James, try this:

Re: Best Driving Road

Cheers Ashok,

I'm back for a few weeks at the end of July and as you would expect it's visit the relatives time. I would normally relish the thought of driving around the great british roads but I'll probably be in a diesel Honda something (the missus's dads car!) chugging around the leafy lanes of Bucks, Oxon, Devon and all the counties in between.

I know the A342. I spent some time at Middle Wallop (no, it's not a Benny Hill place name for our cousins across the pond!) and Bordon so I know the area pretty well.

I'm also looking forward to a lungfull of fresh air. A bit scarce here at the moment - 43C today - sill hot!

All the best,

James
