91 in a 55 (NYC)
Hi All,
Fortunately it was not me that got the ticket, it was my mother
She was driving her 528 at about 3am on the belt parkway, no one on the road except.... an undercover police car supposedly paced her doing that speed. She has hired a lawyer etc. Anyone know what the possible penalty of this is ???
Just trying out this new board attachment feature

Re: 91 in a 55 (NYC)
Best of luck.
Reminds me of one & only ticket (93 in a 55) back in '88 in my Mustang GT - it was 'catch me' red too
That was a $200 ticket but I got it waived because I went to the driver education course (night school)

Re: 91 in a 55 (NYC)
its either 6 or 8 points (11 and you lose your license) and I think the fine will be ~$500. but its not the fine your mom needs to worry about. If you find your lawyer doesnt work out, I used a traffic lawyer I found through the NY chapter of the CCA- I didnt get off- but I did get it reduced. I didnt think I could truly get off because that would require me to lie and I didnt think I could honestly pull that off given that I knew I was speeding.

Re: 91 in a 55 (NYC)
Thanks for the response guys, much appreciated. Your correct, the fine is the least of her concerns, the points are the problem. The lawyer is a "traffic lawyer", hopefully he does a good job. will definately let everyone know what happens.

Lawyer is probably the best bet. BUT--dunno how it works in NY, but in CA you can request a trail by written declaration, which the officer has to respond to. If this doesn't work, you can still go to court, so you haven't hurt your chances. But if the officer doesn't respond, you can get off.
Farking speed limits are too dang low when people's mom's are getting pulled over for going 40% over the limit. New York really needs to take a hard look at what they're doing to their citizens by running a speed limit set so artificially low. 91 isn't even that fast, and on an empty road, who's going to get hurt?

Thanks a lot. The car has the full BMW "aerodynamics package" Honestly, I was a lot more excited when the 528 came to the dealership than the m3. The 528 was our first "cool" vehicle. I learned to drive on it etc.
I completly agree with you regarding the speed limit. The speed limit was set so long ago when car's were not as capable as they are now.
Anyone think it will be raised eventually ?

Re: 91 in a 55 (NYC)
While the cars are now much more capable, I feel most drivers are less capable then when the speed limits were determined.
That said, I'd love higher limits ;-)

It'll never happen. People got too brainwashed by the whole "speed kills" propaganda campaign. People honestly believe that simply going 56mph and not 55 automatically renders you in immediate danger of killing yourself and everyone around you.
Big brother in action.

Re: 91 in a 55 (NYC)
eh, I remember getting caught doing 93 in a 25...That's when I didnt have my radar yet. It was 3 am and not a soul on the road. $250 fine and 4 hour driver relearn class. For any of you who are going to one I have an advice...don't forget the pillow.

Sin:
"I remember getting caught doing 93 in a 25...", "..............4 hour driver relearn class. For any of you who are going to one I have an advice...don't forget the pillow."
If the speed limit is only 25 mph there must be a reason. The braking distance and how long you travel" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: travel';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''"> travel before reacting by pushing the brake pedal is a lot longer from 93 to 0, than 25-30 to 0. It doesn't seem like you have to much respect for road safety.
What happened to the text?
