Apple IPod and other MP3 players
I am thinking about buying an MP3 player and looking at a few different ones. I always hear talk of the Apple IPod, but is it worth the $299-419 (cnet.com) price tag? I see it holds 20 gigs which is all my music plus many many more cds, but from reading the review it says battery performance isn't that great. I was also look at the Dell Jukebox (15gig) which goes for $249 from Dell.com but according to Cnet.com it got some negative reviews because of no diplay on remote (i don't care about that), nonreplaceable batteries (i like that better because I don't have to buy more batteries!) & albums don't play in order thats enough for me not to buy it! Finally, I am only going to use it in work (while I am working before we open, I want to listen to my own music) and I better off spending about a $100 and just dealing with less storage space, which is ok, and a much smaller unit. Someone I work with spent $99 for his RCA Lyra, its tiny and it holds about 3-4 hours of music. I am just looking for feedback on what fellow members have. I know from other posts, several of you have the IPod, how is it?
Happy Holidays

Re: Apple IPod and other MP3 players
i use the i-pod. it pretty much rules my music life. on a fully charged battery itll last 3 days playing music throughout the day. Its great for traveling, planes, trains... to get it hooked up in a car is no problem. if you dont have a input, around 75 bucks installed you can get a fm modulator. they work good and even best buy can install them. i had the 5 gig, now i have the 30 gig. the 30 is well worth the money. I love it. i would never be without one. one more good thing is you can just go to the apple music store online and buy albums for 10 and songs for $1. its pretty convienient.(sp)

Re: Apple IPod and other MP3 players
Buy an iPod. It's the best out there. Slick, small, and good battery life.
Works great on both Mac and Windows with iTunes.
(note: I am biased.)

Re: Apple IPod and other MP3 players
Go for iPod. Despite it’s hefty price it is the best of the rest with a great margin. I have used it about 1 year and never have regret choosing the iPod. I only wish that Apple or Belkin would soon offer some integration kit for BMW, similar to Phatbox.

Re: Apple IPod and other MP3 players
ipod seems to get the nod! I have heard great things about it. And Apple has sound hundreds of thousands of them since they were released. Being able to hook it up in the car is a definet plus. I would hate to have all those songs and have to switch them to cd for the car. I saw today on MSNBC.com, Apple is planning on coming out with a smaller ipod that will sell for around $100 and hold about 400-800 songs on expandable memory. I am going to wait a little bit and see what the smaller one is like. $100 is more in my price range since I don't have that many songs. I had over 850 songs, but my computer crashed and now I have about 75. I had cds but back in 02 my car was broken into and they were all stolen...since then I just had them on the computer. Here is the link to the new ipod that is suppost to be released soon:

Re: Apple IPod and other MP3 players
I heard from a friend that using the Ipod while working out may cause issues because the data is on a hard drive as opposed to some sort of solid-state device..and then the hard drive can skip. Any truth to this? Do those of you with iPod's work out on a treadmill with it without issue??
I wanted to get the 40GB for the wife for xmas - however; local stores were all out

Re: Apple IPod and other MP3 players
I jog with the ipod on a treadmill quite frequently and have never had any problems with it skipping. I looked at the jukebox and many others and found that the ipod, even though a little more expensive, was the best buy by far. It's very user friendly and looks a llot better than the others! Hope this helps!

Re: Apple IPod and other MP3 players
the iPod is really head and shoulders above the competition today. I would caution you that on the 20gb model you wont get the dock- which is not 100% needed, but it looks nice- and you will need to have either USB 2.0 on your computer + the USB 2.0 adaptor cable - or- firewire on your computer. if you dont have either, I would suggest getting a firewire adaptor. if your head is spinning from all this, Id recommend you go down to an apple store (im sure theres one near you) and let them answer your questions.

Re: Apple IPod and other MP3 players
I've heard there is a new i-pod coming out in January, one which is similiar to the third generation but is cheaper.
