Re: The Return of The King
Brilliant-some have criticized it for being too long but i think it was just right...and the fight scenes were great!

Re: The Return of The King
I agree- it was perfect. any more cutting and you hurt the characters. I would have been happy if it were longer! I cant wait for the extended dvd.

Re: The Return of The King
I saw an 8:10PM movie with a friend who is a doctor. He was just able to get to the theater at 8:10- I was holding our seats. I hadnt had anything to eat or drink since 12 Noon. The movie theater was packed and I didnt want to lose good seats waiting on line for junk food so I just held our seats. When he got there, it started, so I waited until it was over. It was so good I forgot I was hungry or thirsty! When I got home at midnight I ate all these leftovers- not good!!!!! Im going to see it again ASAP!

Re: The Return of The King
I'm planning on seeing it soon, even though I havent been a huge fan of the series. I liked two towers, but disliked the first one. I heard Return of the King had quite a lot of action as compared to the first one, and a touch more than number two. Is this correct? Was there still enough time for character development and growth? I'll let you know what I think after I see it.

Re: The Return of The King
I think youll like this one. I dont know if it has more action than Towers, but I guess you could say its about the same.
I loved #1 when I saw it in the theater, I thought #2 was great in the theater, but I liked the character development in #1 better. I loved this last one in the theater.
On DVD, I still love #1, and I have found new things to really enjoy about #2 which I think of as equal to #1. I think this last one will be one amazing DVD.

Well, keep in mind that the 1st and 2nd ones were mostly about character development. Other than seeing the characters reach the full potential of what they are to become, there is not a huge amount of character development. So much of their development was devoted to the first two films. An example of that is Aragorn, of course, you finally see him accept his destiny and develop into the king. 75% of this movie is about the final stand of a united world against evil (and not just the battle scenes). So there definately is the whole solidarity of the free people feeling, as well as the major point of Tolkien's books "Even those that are small can have a great impact on the world".
What didn't you like about the 1st one? The original release of the 1st film did leave much to be desired IMHO, as there were parts that were slightly confusing to those that had not read the books. You could tell that much was removed to hit the time mark. Seeing the extended version makes a HUGE difference. The 2nd in the theaters was not too bad, although there were things that were skipped in film that were in the book, and again, some things were kinda fuzzy because something was cut. I left the theater disappointed, but at the same time had the understanding that it is a part 2 of 3 movie. I recently watched the extended version of Two Towers and it greatly changed my opinion. In fact, I like it almost as much as the 1st! ROTK is just amazing since not only does it show battles that blow the mind, but it shows the characters taking that final step to become the fullest of their potential. The scenes of some of cities of Mordor are unreal.
All of these movies love a BIG screen. 60 inch or more.
I can't wait for the extended version of ROTK. They cut an hour and 5 minutes from the film for the theaters!

Re: The Return of The King
Still havent seen it yet
I'm not sure what it was about the first one. I just could not get my mind into gear and enjoy it. I have tried a few times, but I usually loose interest. I dont just like movies with lots of fight scenes, or that are all action, so it's not the plot line that bothers me. It is just something about it that just doesnt strike a chord with my emotions. I am a really hard movie critic, and have eclectic tastes, I just dont think I am geared to the first movie. Who knows, maybe I'll try it again when my bud comes down from Oregon, as she gets really into it so maybe it will rub off on me. I love the story and the characters, and I love how they all interact. I'll just try it again, as I would like to see and better understand the first one before I see the closure.

Which "version" did you see? Have you seen the special extended editions? I enjoyed the 1st film in the theater, but it did not really grasp me until I saw the extended edition. So much was left out of the theater version. Especially in Two Towers... it was a big disappointment for me until I saw the extended edition.
