Deadly crash in NYC
Young driver, on a date with his girlfriend and his pal die in fiery wreck...
He was apparently rushing to get his girlfriend home because she was late for curfew... crashed his (families) CL500 so badly the engine block tore out of the car and landed 1/2 block away...
Very sad:
From the NY Post

I agree.. no comparison...
I posted my story, to show what might happen if one "races" on a busy street and you are inexperienced and / or unfortunate..
I feel for all those families... what a tragedy!

new M5 tax to replace gas guzzler tax?
From Indonesian newspaper article:
police can be bribed to ignore infractions such as speeding.
Can we learn things from other countries ??

Andre,
Thanks for the post. It's a good reminder to post something like this once in a while, and with Christmas coming up, drink driving will be on the increase...
I get the destinct feeling from the picture that the Merc was driving faster than the 95mph claimed..
Either way, it's tragic when people die from un natural causes.

To tear the engine block from the frame!! That requires some impact !! So, yes, I think 95mph is a very subjective estimate..

Fast cars are great for people who have skill, or have worked their way up the car food chain till they can afford something powerful. This is the second thread about a young driver that has killed people in a very expensive car, in this week. If your family is wealthy, get your kid a nice car, and get them some **** driving schools. Most people don't have the skill to drive at 7/10ths of any cars ability, and then they try to drive fast ones at 11/10ths. It's a total waste and a shame, especially to die b/c of a curfew....

I completely agree with you. The parents of the teen killed seemed to be very wealthy and bought the son an H2. When the H2 was in the shop they let him use the mom's $92k CL500. A car thats capable to be driven a much higher standard than the teen's skills. Hopefully wealthy families will learn from tragedies like this and either not give thier kids high performance cars or send them to driving school.
I also think the teen was going much faster than the 95mph. That car has very serious damage and i would think a Merc would hold up much better than the pictures/story showed.
My condolences go to all the families involved and those who have been effected by such an accident.

There's a bigger story here.
Sorry for the youngsters, I won't judge them.
But the article engenders a type of stereotyping of weathy people that responsible media don't generally do. The Post must be the rag of New York to write like this.
The mention of price and the H2 was totally unnecessary to convey what happen. It should not make any difference what type of vehicle was used, how much it cost. It's this type of tabloid trash that causes racism of a different kind. Anger and jealousy between the have's and have not's which can lead to violence which some of us folks may be the target of.
A little disappointing.

Wow, 2 days ago a saw a similar crash in front of my office. A Mustang and ricer were racing right in front of me, I heard a bang (the mustang hit the curb) and saw the mustang flip about 5 times down the block until it landed in a tree.
So, in both of these accidents, the driver hits the curb/median on their own, and the rest is tragic. Seems like bigtime driver error due to inexperience. What a tragic way to learn a simple lesson.
