Banning lap dances...

What do you guys think about this? California has a law banning lap dances, and dancers must stay 6 ft. away from customers, apparently.

I hear now that CT is planning on passing a similar law.

I think it's messed up. It isn't prostitution. A lot of girls use dancing to pay for college, which they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford. I myself know a few girls that I go to school with, at University of Miami, who would be broke otherwise. Sure they could get normal jobs...but they wouldn't make nearly enough to be able to support themselves and go to school at the same time.

You almost made me spill my coffee!

Kidding aside though, I already heard about this yesterday morning. Doesn’t make much sense to pass such a law does it.

A reasonable (if a tad cynical) guess would be that someone is trying to get re-elected and wants to appeal to his 'prudish-voter' demographic.

It started way back with banning smoking in public areas, and we've now reached bans on lap-dances.
Makes you wonder what's next on the menu...

Yeah, but it's not like there's people in the street getting lap dances. Or getting lap dances in restaraunts when you're trying to eat. Smoking and lap dances are two entirely different things.

I don't particularly enjoy smoke wafting around, but on the other hand, I don't care if someone wants to go into a private setting and get a lap dance.

CT banning them too... whatever is a (married) man to do...

Too many political numbskulls trying to regulate my life.. Typical pre election b/s.. trouble is, it is likely to stick around a lot longer

The articles I read say the ban is a proposed Los Angeles city ordinance (not a California-wide law).

This seems like an over-reaching attempt to legislate morality.

One could endlessly debate whether prostitution is a "victimless crime." Even if you accept the idea that the State has the right to regulate "sexual" behavior by consenting adults, it is not clear that exotic dancing is inexorably tied to prostitution, or that a lap dance necessarily leads to a paid sex act

Trying to fight crime by banning activities that are "associated with" crime leads down a slippery slope of repression. Those associated activities may be perfectly legitimate.

Next they'll want to ban short skirts and fish-net stockings.

I've had lapdances before, and I've never had a prostitute. So the notion that lapdancing leads to prostitution is ridiculous. Maybe they should concentrate on getting the hookers of the streets before they start going after girls giving lap dances in clubs.

Lawmakers must have gone to Houston

Houston is the ONLY place to sonsistently get a lap dance that makes you think you have had a lot more !!!!! No holds barred there for years and years...........best place in the US to get a "dance" other than MONS Venus in Tampa , which is about as wide open as possible at times.............Toronto,Dallas or any place in Florida or California do not hold a candle to Houston....and I actually think the town is horrid......but dancing is an industry there..........

**** Conservatives...

I'm sure this is coming from some far right conservative group...

I myself have never had a lap dance, but I have been to strip clubs. I consider myself to be very conservative politically, but very liberal personally/morally. This kind of prudish behavior could only come from someone who's "past" right-wing conservative...

I think I really got a sense of how prim and prude americans are when I was living in Europe...it seems that they have a much healthier attitude about sex over there...

Lap dances are stupid, getting a stripper to leave early and f*ck, is fun.
