Hello everyone,
I have been tossing around the idea of pursing a law degree. I don't want to do it to be a lawyer, I want to do it for my own personal and professional benefit. I am about to graduate with a BA in Information Systems and currently hold a high IT position with a food distribution company that I joined when it was first started. As it is grownig, I want to grow with it and need to realize that with company growth and my position I want to have as many tools at my disposal as possible to profit and benefit from it's growth.
On top of that, I am a stubborn man who loves being right. I love learning about things and love being able to know about a wide variety of things. Law gives me the ability to not only be right, but in cases where it is warranted, be able to help others as well as myself defend our positions in a court room where facts count and it's decision can be life altering. I want the ability to maybe not go on my own but if ever warranted to possess the knowledge to take care of myself and others close to me including the company I work for if the situation ever aroused. I want to know my rights and want to know when/where to exercise them. I don't want to be pushed around because I don't know when to push back.
So my questions are:
Is the multi-year pursuit of law worthwhile for someone who has my reasons for doing so and does not ever want to be a lawyer?
What field of law best suits me? (I feel it is something along the lines of civil/corporate law...)
How difficult is law school - obviously it varies by school/field, but what I can expect on average to be a weekly workload?
Any thoughts/comments/etc are greatly appreciated.
Regards,
