We all dirve German cars but how much German can we speek?
Hi Guys,
I was thinking about testing the language skills on the Board
We all (almost all anyhow) dirve cars from Germany, but how much of the German language do we know by speaking or typing?
Please type a sentenc or a word and then translate it to English.
I havenīt asked Ken but Iīm hopeing that he will help me to correct and learn.
Guten Tag meine Herren, ich bin einem fahrer einen Deutschen Wagen.
Good day sir, I drive a German car.
BMW= Bayerische Motor Werke
Hope we all learn something out of this and have a little fun
Sounds pretty good to me, ofcourse it's pretty easy for me, although I'm not perfect in speaking and writing, grammar is a B...ch... And I can make mistakes as well, as it has been quite a while when I had German lessons during my schoolyears. But to correct a little of what Mark has wrote, considering he's an Aussy it's pretty good!!, Mr MIB=Herr MIB, three=drei, eight=acht, ten=zehn, twelve=zwolf, and I think you wrote down your age in the end, after reading that most Germans will think that you're five and thirteen!! Ha ha ha. But great nonetheless! If you're 35 of age, it's funf-und-dreizig. But nonetheless very good!! Keep up the good work. Take care and drive safe,

Thanks for the vote of confidence; unfortunately, my German is getting worse instead of better. I took several German courses many years ago and got to practice my verbal German skills when I first came to Germany shortly after that. Was forced to in that very few Germans at the time knew much English.
Guess you might say Ive become the typical American, only know one language and I sometimes fare poorly with it. In my earlier years I even limited my travels in Europe to only those places that spoke English or the little German I knew. I could order food, beer, get on a train, find a hotel room and follow simple directions.
Now with globalization, satellite / cable TV systems and a sense that the world is getting smaller, I find too many other people knowledgeable in English or others who want to practice English for me to maintain my limited German skills.
When I came back to Europe in 96 to manage my companys aircraft maintenance program in Europe, Africa, The Middle East and parts of Asia I was again staying in remote locations and challenged to communicate but always found a person or two to help me, so it has been a down hill slide ever since and I have given up.
So that said noch ein bier bitte Please, another bier
Ken

My German's alright, I can understand the majority of it when it's spoken to me, I struggle with the rest although my speaking is OK...Never been too good at languages myself despite having a Doctor in languages teach me, she's a great teacher otherwise.
I'm 'pretty good' with the numbers though.
