Montoya caught speeding in France (128 mph)
Just as Jenson Button a few years ago (223 km/h on a BMW 330d), Juan-Pablo Montoya has been caught in France (204 km/h).
Button had not been stripped of his licence, but Montoya has.
In France, you better forget speeding those days...
Montoya caught speeding in France
Colombian stripped of his licence Speedy Montoya!
Colombian Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has been stripped of his licence after being caught driving at 204 kilometres per hour in southern France, police said Monday.
The Williams-BMW star was clocked on a radar Sunday afternoon while driving his BMW over the speed-limit on the A8 motorway between Les Arcs and Le Muy south of here. He was then ordered to hand over his driving licence pending a judicial investigation.
Local officials said that Montoya was facing a two-month suspension from driving in France, but that would not affect his participation in the French Grand Prix.

More info from the BBC :
"Police said on Monday that the Colombian driver had been clocked on Sunday driving a BMW four-wheel-drive at 204 km/h (122 mph) in a 130 km/h (78mph) zone."
Then : X5 4.6 is ? Nobody would have noticed a 330xi.
The best part :
"The Nice Matin newspaper said he had not hesitated to admit speeding, but had told police he was well used to driving fast."

Well it has been stated several times in the Euro Communities that France has been required to get tougher with their driving rules since they have had the poorest record in the EU. However, even without this change it is the beginning of vacation season and every year the French get tough with speedy vacationers on the way to and from the Med. Another note for you EU members, they just passed a new law that speeding tickets in France, Germany, Spain, or anywhere else may now be mailed to your local government for collection. Getting to be just like the US.

You're right, you better forget about speeding in France these days...... speeding laws have become very tough during the last year.

Speeding laws in France are joke compaired to US. I was fined 90Euro for doing 170KMH in 110KMH zone few weeks ago near Annecy. And they only stoped me because I had the nerve to pass them. If I could only get away with fines like this here in US! Ohh, I'll be the happiest person in the world. Most of the time you can do ~160-180KMH without being stopped. It's when you approach 200KMH it gets a little risky. BTW 130KMH is not such a bad speed limit to begin with. Here in NY ~90KMH is a top speed allowed and doing more than ~110KMH will most likely get you in a lot of trouble ($$$$). Don't complain, enjoy it while it last.
PS IMO Montoya most likely suffered in this case because of his fame.
Best regards, Gene.

What would be the official reason for Montoya to loose his licence. Would it be regarded as dangerous or reckless driving?
In New Zealand, speeding tickets are issued with these reasons in mind. So when the speed limit is 100km/h and you're caught over 10km/h over that limit you'll get a ticket.
It's thoses cops that travell over 200 km/h to catch you for speeding that should be getting the ticket. That speed is far more dangerous than 10km/h over the limit.
I'm sure that the cop that would have chased Montoya would have had to go quickly to catch him. Now who has had the best training for that kind of speed.
