OT: Hit-and-run BMW driver kills two in Dallas

I copied and pasted this article from the Dallas Morning News website. Another tragic story........

Hit-and-run driver kills two
01/14/2003

From Staff and Wire Reports

Two people died in what police say was a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 35E in Northwest Dallas.

Two others were hurt in the incident at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday. Police are looking for a battered silver BMW.

The deadly sequence unfolded on Stemmons Freeway northbound between Walnut Hill and Royal lanes after a car clipped an 18-wheeler and caught fire. Another motorist stopped to help a passenger in the burning car escape.

WFAA-TV
Police say a hit-and-run driver killed two people on Stemmons Freeway early Tuesday.
Police said the BMW then came speeding through the scene at an estimated 110 mph. Officers said the driver tried to swerve between the disabled vehicles and hit two or three people.

The passenger who had been trapped and freed was dead at the scene. His rescuer died later at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

One bystander suffered a broken leg.

Identities of the victims were not immediately released.

The wreck occurred less than 24 hours after the Dallas Police Department announced a new initiative to crack down on speeding drivers.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

That's a terrible story Reggie.

That's the hazard of excessive speed on public roads when you do not have a clear view of the road ahead that would allow you to brake within the sight distance.

The accident will no doubt fan the flames of Mayor Miller's anti-speeding campaign. I heard she was planning rolling road blocks of police cars traveling at the speed limit -- basically daring anyone to pass them.

News Update...

It turns out that the police have charge Cowboys DB Dwayne Goodrich with two counts of manslaughter....

It seems that he was the driver of the BMW (or at least owned the car)...

Supposedly he provided a written statement to the police, and a source said he was the driver of the BMW.

Not that it matters in the scheme of things, but do you know what model BMW was he driving?

I'm not exactly sure on the model but I'd bet it was an M3.

While watching the news, I saw a quick flash of the car as it was being hauled into the city pound. The car was pretty smashed and he had aftermarket wheels so it was hard to be 100% sure, but it really looked like an E39. Not sure which model, but looking at the roof line and the rear door, I'm pretty sure is was an E39 5 series.
