Guys - As some of you may know I went to great lengths to install rear fog lights on my M5 as one of my first mods to make driving in inclement conditions much safer. Now I have a Mini and the need has increased since this vehicle is much smaller but so has the difficulty. Mini along with BMW has made the rear fog lights now fall under the control of the BCM (in BMW's) and BC1 (in Mini's). That means, even if you run all the wires and hook up the correct switches, you will need a code from BMW/Mini to activate the switch controlling the rear fogs. BMW/Mini is now refusing to give this code to US owners. Their first line excuse is that rear fogs are illegal in the US. When confronted that their information is wrong, they respond that BMW/Mini refuses to offer the codes to US customers since they feel they should not have them.
Anybody seen the news in the last 3 months on thenumber of traffics accidents and deaths attributed to low visibility in fog? This response is a slap in the face to US owners.
If you feel as I do that this feature should be offered to US consumers of the Mini please sign the following petition,
Mini Petition for Rear Fog Lights. You will do a great service for your fellow enthusiasts and possibly get BMW/Mini to stop their outlandish claims and provide their customers with needed safety equipment.
