Cars are approaching ‘auto’ pilot mode

Cars are approaching ?auto? pilot mode - Innovation- msnbc.com

It will still be a long while (probably 20 years), but I expect auto-drive to eventually make its way onto public roads and later completely displace manual driving. At some point in the future, manual driving and auto enthusiasts will be relegated to private tracks as a fun anachronism.

I've got adaptive cruise control and night vision in the CL...ACC is great - night vision is terrible.

Is night vision in the windshield (like a HUD) or in the dash towards the center console?

It's in the dash - no HUD for MB (well, maybe in the Black Series - I don't remember noticing it or not when I drove one)...

It was the single biggest issue (well, still is) when I got rid of the M5. I still look through the windshield to check for my speed/gear. For $150+k, there should be a HUD. Biggest improvement in car safety since the airbag.

However, it is frickin huge. Probably about the size of your regular navigation screen. It turns the entire odometer area into a nightvision display and adjusts the other gauges accordingly. I just get too distracted - though every now and then it is useful.
