Cosmos, I am not sure it is ironic or causal. Imagine sitting day in and day out listening to the horrors of those wars and then being sent there yourself.
And I do not mean this in any was as a justification even in the smallest measure of what he did. However, I always think it is important to understand the drivers of these incidents if you want to try to minimize them in the future.

In my opinion, religion has no place in the military, especially a literalist religion that requires its followers to kill or die people with idealogical differences. Obviously, this post is not a good venue of sharing my objections over presence, tolerance and encouragement of other abrahamic religions in US army but suffice it to say, anyone who is guided by their imaginary friends has no place in army or any sensitive position of power - combine this divine entitlement to judge others inside the head of a friggin psychiatrist who is himself a psycho and cannot differentiate between reality and voices in his head telling him to kill indiscriminately and you have the perfect recipe for disaster.

Ding ding ding you are correct. This will turnout to be a terrible occurrence of military (army) political correctness.
Nobody wanted to speak out against this COWARD( one who kills innocent defenseless, ie. a terrorist) because we can not say anything negative about the muslim / islamic faith. Now other religions are open game for attacks but not muslims!!
