This is a great moment for Virginia. Only the second time in history that all 3 offices have gone to conservatives. The home of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison is finally back to its roots.
Even super liberal New Jersey has said "No More" to Obama and his cronies. I'm proud of my home state today.
Get ready you libs out there. The silent majority has been awakened. Your dreams of perpetual power and your culture of corruption are crumbling before your very eyes. The great people of this nation who still believe in liberty, self-reliance, private property and true freedom have acted, and they cannot be stopped.
Congratulations to those who made the right choice yesterday. Those of you who still don't get it, who blindly believe what the state-controlled media tells you, don't be upset today. For the Conservative is the true champion of the people. He is the one who stands for your liberty and freedom and will give YOU the tools to succeed. Now you'll see it in action.

Many people wrote that same thing but with the opposite parties about a year ago
Woah woah woah...Republicans ≠ Conservatives...I don't ever want to be called a conservative, and my post is not saying a thing about conservatives. More a reflection of the direction things were going and the about face they have just taken.
Which was what made NY-23 a national news item. I'm actually glad that Doug Hoffman lost. The Party of Lincoln needs to go back to its roots - not become the party of Palin. If the Republican party wants people like me to stop voting for the Libertarian candidate and vote (R) again, they need to get their act together. The NY-23 was the perennial fuckup. Local and National party leaders didn't communicate about their candidate and then a grass roots campaign swirled against the (R) candidate to go wider. It was being painted as an intra-party "fight for the soul." Well guess what, if the (R)s don't move back to the center and liberalize on social issues, the party is going to be fractured and the middle and wing will cannibalize each other. It is 2009 and trying to stop progress is a fool's errand. And a blatant insult to decent people everywhere.
I'm not talking about going out and rallying for abortion and gay-marriage and higher taxes, but I'm saying NOT to campaign against them - they are loser issues - there are not enough voters anymore to cover that gap from the wing to the middle to the independents - times have changed very quickly. They happen, it's going to happen, and as the party of individualism, they should realize the hypocritical way they run. Concessions must be made to people like me who are radical fiscal conservatives and strong social libertarians (I'm a registered Republican, but I'll be damned if I vote for an (R) candidate just because he/she has an (R) next to their name). Government is not the answer - that's what the (R)s used to stand for. This culture war is crazy - we have a country in a cold civil war - and one party is becoming irrelevant (at least to me) while the other is using the opportunity to move farther out to its wing. The parties are supposed to balance one another out so we can avoid fringe lunatics. Not send them to the White House like we have with Obama (or would have with a Palin).
I'm just welcoming them back in from the cold frigid air of the fringe left - that stuff belongs in California. Much like in the '08 Presidential, independents (who really decide elections) weren't necessarily voting as base Conservatives all of a sudden, but more against the Democratic party which has driven those two states further in the shitter.
However, the way the system is set up, there are only two ways to get the money to run for office unless you're self made. And if you take their money, you're beholden to their views.

For once, though, glowrider is right: republican does not equal conservative, just like democrat does not equal liberal. There are plenty of contradiction in all of them if you adhere strictly to a label (like wanting less government but then supporting anti-gay laws; or being a liberal and supporting anti-smoking laws and PC crap).
Valid points guys. I agree that R doesn't equal conservative (unfortunately). But I'd rather be called a Conservative before a Republican.
Republicans moving to the center equal GWB. Think Reagan would have sent us all $600 checks? That's not conservative. Bush was not a conservative. Right moving center was "how things were going." Not conservative. Now is the time for the Republican party to stick to its roots. Just like you said, the party of Lincoln. I believe the Republican party has been weakened because it was trying to move to the center and it lost its identity. There was nothing to counter the hard left and people started accepting social handouts and stimuli, etc because nobody was explaining why they don't work. Nobody is leading the Republican party.
FWIW...I'm not at all opposed to gay marriage and rights. I think everyone should lighten up on a lot of the "family values" issues that the Republicans hit so hard. You're right on track on that.
