Funny you bring this car up since I had a little showdown with one this morning. Cruising along at about 80 he came up behind and started riding my bumper so here we go, through some mild turns on the highway he would fall behind and then catch up on straight stretches. This is a highway going into the pocono mountains so there are hills and turns, at the top of one hill the road opens up both lanes and he darts out into the right lane trying to pass me. I was in fifth and just put the pedal down and kept it there until about 145mph he never got past my rear bunper but he did keep up, we did run out of room and could not find out what would happen from there. I have to say the camaro can hang but will not pass my 9 year old M5.

e39 vs Camaro should be a close match, weight wise and power.

Rumor has it that the Z28 version will be 556hp and prices under $45k. That should be a cool little ride.

The timing of this post is incredible as I had a similar run-in a week ago in Atlanta. I got on 400 south from Roswell headed back to Buckhead and a beautiful yellow one with custom wheels and what looked like a custom exhaust is right next to me. We started messing around, but nothing over 80-90 just yet. I have an H&S exhaust so I pulled up next to him in 3rd and punched it a little bit just to let him know I had a little something going on. He hovers next to me for awhile trying to egg me on and at that point I was talking to my wife on the phone and said "I gotta go, some idiot in a new Camaro is trying to get it." We goof off some more and at some point we wind up stepping on it at exactly the same time from 75mph. Through 3rd we're neck and neck and through 4th we're neck and neck. At best I may have had a foot or two on him at the top of 4th and at that point I didn't feel like testing the limiter in a new city where I have no clue where the authorities might be hiding. I had to stop at the toll near Buckhead to pay up and he kept on going, but I could tell he was getting off because he was signaling to the right. I haul it to catch up with this guy as I was curious to hear what he had done to the car if anything. I finally catch up with him two or three stoplights later and we're sitting side by side. I drop my window and yell out "nice run". He looks back and says "Yeah, you like that don't you!!". I said "what do you have in there?" He goes "supercharged V8". I said "How much horsepower?" He said 710 and stomps on it right when I'm about to say "Mine is a 2000 with 400hp." I guess he didn't want to hear my response........ Maybe he thought I asked "what would you like to have in there".......
