oh i definitely would bc i do not have 20mm however if i already had 20mm and someone offered me that to do something i do not see fit, i would turn it down... when youre in the public eye, and youre in the film industry you leave behind a legacy. your work is captured on film and forever 'remembered' or 'immortalized' regardless of who it is or how good/bad it is... with that being said i would try to leave on a high note, and not just pump out crap for a paycheck. especially if i already have substantial monies/net worth. on the flip side i wasnt aware of divorce and financial issues, that sheds more light on the subject...

Let me ask you - do you ever think you'd turn down $20 million plus points for 4 months of work? I sure wouldn't. But then again, I don't believe in stopping earning while you still can - because who knows when your earning power will cease and you can always leave it to your children. "Having enough," is never enough.

That's called being a sell-out. It's like people do things just because they get paid. And that's just really sad!

Glow is right - you work as long as you can, make as much money as you can (if that's important to you; it is to most), and have as much fun as you can.

Regarding being a sellout, I don't see any dishonesty or abdication of deep principles. Murphy is a comedic actor, and if people want to pay him lots of money to do cheesey films, then all power to him.

He's moved from adult comedies to family comedies - he makes money for studios and is in demand.

You think he is laying awake at night crying about being an alleged sell-out? Do you think the janitor does his job because he enjoys it? No, he does it to make money, just like Eddie Murphy. And a lot of these actors "sell-out" to do family comedies exactly because of their legacy. He's got young kids, dont you think he likes making movies his kids can enjoy?

There's a real world out there - welcome to it.

Some people are just silly, naive idealists, jesus...

What is the world coming to when people do things because they earn an income for doing them!!?? We must put an end to this practice now! Quick, let's get government to start taxing work because that way people won't feel so inclined to do it for money, those greedy bastards. Oh wait, we already do it's called social security.

First of all...

+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

Second of all, silly naive idealists? Very nice. If you said "Eddie Murphy" back in the early 90s, you'd immediately picture Beverly Hills Cop, 48 Hours, Delirious and generally funny stuff. Say Eddie Murphy now and you have Daddy Day Care and Pluto Nash.

The whole point of making children's movies is a stupid one. Show me a bad-*** actors like Clint Eastood and Paul Newman making kids' movies. No, they kept making excellent pieces of film (and still do in Eastwood's case) without any trash. Oh, and the money kept coming in. You aren't gonna see Jason Statham making a kid's movie now are you? Vin Diesel did and it was terrible. Take any kid that likes "daddy day care" and show him Delirious. See what he thinks of it.

And I'm not talking about typecasting, either. I'm talking about movies that suit your image. Murphy isn't exactly a character actor like Phillip Seymour Hoffman or Tom Hanks, but come on.

And selling out has to do with integrity. Artists turn down jobs all the time because they feel that they won't be good for the role or job in general. Making stuff only for money and ignoring your career's work is called selling out.

Some people just take the life out of life, jesus.

Arnold did Kindergarten Cop and Twins, among others. Stallone did lots of cheesey movies (e.g., Rhinestone Cowboy), though few degenerate as far as Burt Reynolds. Anyway, it's like baseball - you try to stay ahead of the game, but it ultimately always catches up. You will be paid a lot for your last season or two where your production is a fraction of what it was in your prime.

Regarding Murphy, he was an edgy comic and actor. Few comics maintain their edge as they age. Perfect example: Richard Pryor and the absolutely rediculous Superman III. At least Murphy understands this and successfully transitions to entertaining kids by donning a fat suit, etc. instead of an ultra-lame attempt at Trading Places 2 with an even-more-over-the-hill Dan Akroyd.

I think Murphy is doing it just fine relative to others.

Except that kindergarten cop wasn't a steaming pile of crap. But there also was Jingle All The Way.....

A hell of a lot of Stallone movies were cheesy, even the ones meant to be serious. Judge Dredd and Demolition Man? Come on! But they were funny in their cheesiness. Despite that, it had them kicking *** at one point or another.

And entertaining kids by throwing a fat suit? If you're talking about the Nutty Professor, then I didnt see that as a kids movie at all. That was probably the last good movie with Eddie Murphy that I saw. Have you seen Haunted House?

My opinion stands. Even if Stallone and Schwartzeneger made some cheesy movies, they weren't one after the other. And we could expect them to return to their over-the-top ***-kickery soon thereafter.

Eddie Murphy took his talents to another part of the lot. Perhaps he sees movies as a means to an end?

He's wildly famous across generations, makes a ton of money, and by all accounts lives his life as he wants it. Isn't that the whole point?

De Niro did Meet the Parents because he was financially strapped and look what happened - an entirely new side of him came out.

And Eddie isn't Clint Eastwood or Arnold or any of the others. Eddie is Eddie and he doesn't have to do **** all to please you. He's responsible to himself and to his family. He's an actor for crissakes. Not like he got elected on a some cockamamie campaign promise and sold out his constituents.

Oh, and as to Statham - he's awesome, and I guarantee he'll get studios knocking down his door someday for a children's movie. He's exactly the type of character actor that they look for.
