Unions

While initially they appear to be the salvation for the worker, inevitably they are the demise of the middle class.

Please discuss.

While David implies that he likes a man who is a "rough rider" I will explain.

I can't think of any industrialized nation that has benefited from workers unions. Unions are great for developing countries, but as the economy expands and capitalism starts to outweigh the worker, wages increase and the need for cost cutting becomes needed to maintain profits; unions becomes an anchor weighing down the industry they helped build. To maintain profitability the company, (sometimes industries as a whole) outsources. The more they outsource the less they need the union, the less they need the union, the less they need the middle class workers who support the union.

Hence....While initially they appear to be the salvation for the worker, inevitably they are the demise of the middle class.

Lets examine why unions only appear to last at most two to three generations.....

West Virginia's Mine Wars

Battle of Blair Mountain

AmericanHeritage.com / The West Virginia Mine War

Did you forget that our government took up arms against its citizens at the request of a corporation? In the gramd scheme of things...this was not that long ago.

Events like this make the need to organize very important...along with the 2nd amendment

Also, this is the first known use of the term "redneck"...too bad it has become a pejoritive term..and has lost its honor

While I am not a fan of unions, I think your reasoning/logic flow is flawed, at least empirically. I speak of course, of the technology sector. No unions, yet outsourcing and off-shoring abound. Discuss.

I think unions are good for protecting the worker against unfair conditions. But for the most part, unions have focused on wages. The greedy unions have priced themselves out of the competition. The high wages they demand cause companies to outsource. When the workers had jobs, they demanded higher wages. Now many of them are jobless because when the companies refused to pay those high salaries, they just turned to other workers. Those other workers just happened to be in foreign nations. The unions just seem to have a sense of entitlement and that just gets under my skin!
