Interesting. Glad to see someone else say it's not a vast right wing conspiracy that global warming is overstated if not largely fabricated

Al Gore made millions off of it? Man made emissions probably do have some impact on global temperatures, however there's no way it's a doomsday scenario like some would have you believe. There is so much going on that affects global temperatures that we have no idea. The best thing we can do is try to phase out carbon fuels as best we can (maybe try to generate electricity via nuclear means in the US--but oh, nuclear is so scary!). What would be nice is if legislators actually stopped and thought before they fund the next alternative energy source with millions in taxpayer's dollars. Seriously we should stop funding some of these just terrible ideas: ethanol, cow fart harnesses, etc.

Al Gore is really quite brilliant, I mean he basically rode this huge green wave of cash straight to the bank. I'm just surprised that people buy it like they do. I mean look at these celebrities like Sean Penn and Madonna that act all green and save the Earth but then fly in private jets here and there. Yet people praise them as champions of the cause. Global warming is truly one of those things where whatever actual scientific effect there would be worth discussing and studying was drowned in the uproar of the few "smart" scientists and politicians leading the many ignorant to waste their money.

Guilt is a powerful weapon.

Man-made emissions (of carbon) account for about 3% of the total emissions. The rest are decaying plants and animals, forest fires, and volcanoes. Still, 3% sounds insignificant, but on a grand scale, it can make a dent.

The issue is whether global warming is man-made or not (or a combination). There is no doubt that winters are getting milder (especially in the southern hemisphere), glaciers are shrinking, and mountain tops are seeing less snow. Something is definitely going on. I do prefer the baseless guilt to arrogant indifference, though.

At least we are seeing more efficient vehicles (non-hybrids, that is), diesel technologies are improving very quickly,

Surely this whole "green" stuff is going similar to the Politically Correct movement with people trying to make a buck out of guilt (carbon credits come to mind, for instance), but I think that it's bound to bounce back to a nice intermediate level. Hell, when gas was really expensive, I decided to start driving the car very hard. I figured that if it gas was gonna be so expensive, then might as well burn it while having fun and make it worth my money!

Energy crisis is postponed as new gas rescues the world - Telegraph

Can't believe this was buried the other day and I haven't seen a thing elsewhere. This could be a remarkable breakthrough for our energy concerns.

Thanks for posting that link. It seems as usual that forecasters can be relied on to get things wrong.

However, these technologies seem to be very messy and environmentally risky.

He didn't handle accusations about 9 inaccuracies in his infamous film 'An Inconvenient Truth' very well.

It seems I come across a lot of people who agree with me on these matters ( being: the environmental protection lobby is awfully wrong and much like an unstoppable stampede, never satisfied and always on the lookout to find new ways of wasting money and time under the green monicker) , but strangely these people don't appear to cast their vote in line of their opinion when election time comes. Or they are not allowed to by their wives.

On the other hand, there are very little political movements that strongly oppose against the left-wing hunger for green nonsense. Nor does anyone ever link back many of the now-shown lies of the green past, such as acid rain , global warming and greenhouse gasses' effect.

Where I come from , there is a political party named 'The Animals Party' who, as expected, only render ideas and opinions when it comes to animal issues. They get quite some votes, from people who don't care about our retirement system, economy, traffic jams, immigration problems, Afghan warfare (sorry rebuild) or cultural items. They simply like animals, and therefore vote for this party.

I couldn't care less about the retirement system, Afghan war or cultural items. I care about some other things, but most of all, I'll dedicate my life to supporting a party who'd bring a halt to this environmental nonsense and governmental 'car-owner-aggrivation' policies. I don't think I'm alone in this, so the first party that puts focus and weight into those aspects, will probably get a LOT of votes. I know I'd do anything to help them

On a less serious note, I sadly also come across a lot of the 'green' extremists. Ofcourse, they resent me for driving a car that's not a hybrid (or, a handful of cars that are pretty f%%king far from hybrids ) . So, if they don;t take my hobbies seriously, I find it only fair to reply them with equally stupid statements such as the following:

If beavers build a dam, its nature and oh so important to be preserved

If humans build a car, its a crime.

So, if beavers would have opposable thumbs and the technology, and come up with a car aswell, wouldn't this be nature?

usually, they walk away after this. mission accomplished. I hope it rains on their bicycle saddles outside.

Wout

Being environmentally responsible is good Wout. Green is not bad, it has just been hijacked and monopolised. Green is good as we all understand it. Don't **** in your drinking water, don't make people breathe toxins, make living conditions as pleasant and non-threatening as possible.

If you really hold the view that you don't care about these things, I can't support your view. It's selfish and insensitive.

What's wrong with being selfish and insensitive? I'm not sensitive to every problem in the world and I certainly think of my family, friends, and myself far more than strangers.
