Gore clearly has a profit motive - his investments, lectures, consulting, movie and Nobel have garnered him huge bucks.

What is less obvious is the enormous amount of government money being doled out in research grants to study global warming (now hedged as "climate change"). This inherent bias/distortion in the science is huge and unknown to most.

The fact that the NY Times is running an article (and buried it, mind you) a trillion years after the fact, shows that at least a chunk of people out there had no idea this was the case.

He created a market for himself, used himself to market it, and then cashed in on it. I think it is terrific - capitalism at its finest. Steve Jobs couldn't have done it any better.

I think it's nonsense if anyone believes he's got an altruistic purpose in all of this - and clearly many people were/are blind to this hooey.

"He created a market for himself, used himself to market it, and then cashed in on it. I think it is terrific - capitalism at its finest".

You admire that David?

This is gross deception and manipulation.

What do you admire?

Is it correct that he consumes as much electricity as half a town, all by himself?

Marketing is manipulation, plain and simple - I'm in the biz.

And I don't think he deceived anyone who didn't want to be deceived. Smart people do their homework and see all sides. Sheep follow and don't ask questions. I'm not going to argue for a second that 'being green' is bad at all. Nothing wrong with trying to be more eco-friendly - and he made it fashionable and found a way to make a trunkload of coin on it. People can find experts (legitimate ones too) to back up anything they're trying to sell.

It's capitalism 101. I don't think he's an evil person and I don't think he's a liar, I just think he's a disingenuous hypocrite. There is a very real shift in the climate - I believe it is a natural phenomenon that cycles throughout the history of our planet. There are charts to support this.

Ego/Eco-maniacs think that our post-Industrial world, which has been around for less than 200 years, will destroy a multi-billion year old planet that can kill off species at will and as necessary. Eco-nazis have it all wrong - they think people are the cause and solution to the world's probs. Nature lovers should realize that Mother Nature allows us to exist at her pleasure.

What would you think if he was out there saying, "Go green, the environment is changing, we should do our best to slow it/fix it, and you should pay me for the privilege of listening to my nonsense."

I have to disagree. While fluctuation in global climate is cyclical, we as a species have aided in speeding up the natural occurring phenomenon.

Did the ice caps melt before and come back sure, will it happen again, probably. However we as humans contribute to it. Its like this. Leaving your windows open in your house or closing them during the seasons. It has an effect on the temperature inside the house. We do not control the seasons, but we have been fawking with the windows.

I completely miss the material distinction between disingenuous hypocrite and liar. I agree with Lew Rockwell in his blog post on the topic:
Quote:
Al may become the first man to rip-off a cool billion through government carbon tyranny. When a man becomes rich in the market, it is because he has been highly successful in serving consumers. When a hereditary member of the power elite like Gore becomes even richer through the state, it means he has been very successful in pushing the faces of consumers into the mud. He promotes climate lies and then poverty-producing state intervention because of the lies, and then makes big bucks from special deals with companies he helped enrich through the state. What a monster.
While this may be corporatism 101, it is not capitalism. It has nothing to do with free markets and serving consumers; it is just the opposite.

Regarding being evil or not, let me paraphrase Mama Gump - evil is as evil does. The consequence of the policies Gore promotes is a massive reduction in wealth and human wellbeing leading to suffering and even *****. Evil? Certainly. Rockwell's use of "monster" is yet more fitting.

How much does Cow poop contribute to Global Warming

I'm not going to look it up. I want opinions on this board. How much % does it contribute and if I eat only Bison meat, will my Carbon Foot print be offset enough to remove my catalytic converter?
