I dated a Thai girl for a brief spell when I was in school in California. She knew how to cook wonderfully, and more importantly she knew where to find the good Thai food in the Bay Area. I can't imagine any other state comes close when it comes to Japanese, Chinese, or Thai.

Yep. Phillipino too. There's an area here called Mira Mesa, but it's known locally as Manila Mesa. Best lumpia ever.

Well, the best steak in the world is from your country...(Funny story, the first time I was in Ecuador I went looking for a great steak house and I was psyched that I'd get Argentinian beef...They, however, were proud to present the finest beef in the world...from Nebraska...Very disappointing.)
And this is a battle between NY and California...Well, NYC vs. the State of California - they've got an edge on size...We've got the better food overall.
I'll give the booze and organic farm-fresh food edge to Cali.

Depends on what we're talking about. Baskin Robbins makes 31 flavors for a reason. Some people like 4 seasons, some people need sun/warmth, some people need water, some people are mountain folk.Etc. However...if $ were no object, and we voted on Where You'd Live If You Could, I'd bet SoCal wins hands-down. I've been *trying* to find a "better place" than here since I got here in 83'. I wouldn't mind 4 seasons, I'd love to have a trout stream in my backyard, but I also need sun and no(minimal) mosquitos. Oddly, that might be CA again. I'm gonna drive up to Lake Tahoe in a couple weeks through Bishop and the eastern Sierras (probably in the 3, not the Beast)...maybe I'll fall in love with something on the way and move there.
What type of places are you looking for, Evan? (Don't know anything about an exotic car show - I think that's Serg's thing)...And where are you staying? Big city...

I'm not a fan of Mexican food, but I will wager to say the Texans on the board will fight to the ***** that their Mex food is better than Cali Mex.
As for the Asian foods...It's New York and it isn't close.
Restaurants are a constant disappointment in Cali...East Coast rules, Kommie Coast drools!!!
Well I don't know about that Glow...here in Texas all restaurant food is Mexican food. I went to the local quickie wok today and the cook wasn't Chinese!

Tell me about it. Just had a Mexican sushi chef the other night. (Good too!)
I also want to mention that although it might sound odd, the best, I mean THE best Chinese is in Zurich. Sounds weird, but true. Followed by El Centro in Cali.
The Chinese settled their after the transconintnial railroad and never left. Very good stuff, but you need to drive 2hrs from San Diego to get it.

Scandinavia has some great Chinese food, specifically Stockholm - also there's a Chinese restaurant on the Strψget in Copenhagen that's worth the trip to Denmark on its own. (I try the Chinese food in every country I visit - long standing family tradition).
