I know. I saw that yesterday after a few days of it being down.

Someone needs shooting in the face, its as simple as that. Someone at BMW seems to think that that site did BMW more harm than good. That person needs to be fired, if not in the literal sence that I suggested at the beginning of this paragraph, then at least in the pensionless P45 sence.

Can we get a little enlightenment? What was this website about? Why was it shut down?

IT was the UK ///M board, focussed more towards the 3 series rather than the fives although a lot of us on here (from the UK) used to use it as well.

It was previously know as BM3W but good old Corporate BMW didn't like the name and caused a huge amount of legal problems for the board owner (Matt) which eventually meant the change in the name of the board.

You'd have thought BMW would have been pleased to see boards that promote their cars ... but clearly not !!!

I don't blame BMW, they have to vigilantly protect their name for trademark purposes, otherwise that could spell trouble down the road when they do try to assert their trademark somewhere else.

sucks about the site though, this is the first I'm hearing of the site but it sounds like it was pretty cool.

I don't get it. BMW legal doesn't like your site name so you shut it down? Just rename it to McarsfromGermanymadebyacompanywhosenamestartswitha BandendswithWsuck.com and keep it open.

Thinking $60 profit is worth it. You pay all shipping of course. At the moment I have four remaining Timesert inserts looking for homes. If the demand is there I'll keep doing them. If not the tool goes on eBay minus one insert.

Bmw...disgraceful behaviour if true...

As well as the M5BOARD, there was also the UK based MTORQUE as the forum for all things BMW.
There are im sure many who were registered members of that site.
The site has been stopped and this is on their front page.

M-Torque Announcement

We are sorry to announce that as of September 15th 2009 M-Torque has ceased operation.
I personally would like to thank all of our regular users and contributors to the site over the last 8 years for their support through both the good times and the bad. The decision has not been taken lightly and is based on feedback from various users of the site and also ultimately the decision earlier this year by BMW AG to try and remove this site from the internet and the ensuing grief they piled on us.
To everyone who works for BMW UK and BMW AG you can thank your management for their part in this decision. This site has never been a commercial venture despite their ridiculous claims, yet BMW pursued us for many months with the intention of having this site removed from the internet, which considering this site was created to support their brand is, in my view, very short sighted and one that saddened me greatly, since a lot of time and effort has been put into this site by so many and ultimately destroyed any desire to support the brand.
If BMW wish to review their decision and work with us to build a community that again can work with BMW and support them, I would happily change this decision.
If you have any comments, feedback or indeed if BMW wish to contact us, then please feel free to write to mtorque@mtorque.co.uk, we cannot promise to reply to all messages received and we may even publish some on here. All the best, and happy and safe driving..

It was and has been a good source of information/advice/friendship for many people as well as a good market place and even had a section or two to vent ones frustration/share humor.
Primarily however i believe it served the purpose of promoting BMW ownership and enhanced the brand. It also served to keep the levels of service honest, shaming those that gave poor service and promoting those that gave good service.
What concerns me is the fact the IF TRUE , and i have absolutely no reason to believe otherwise, this behaviour by BMW is disgraceful and i will seriously re-consider my continued custom. Im sure there are those out there that will suggest i am cutting ny nose off to spite my face, but certainly from my personal experiences with BMW main agents in the UK, i was already half way to ditching their products anyway.
I have had dealings with BMW UK and let just say that they have been found very very wanting. I have never dealt with BMW AG so i cannot comment.
I do wonder though, this site is very similar, and although i have no knowledge of what actually occurred , how long before BMW turn their attention to other sites and attempt to close them down ?

I for one do not approve of this behaviour and of course i have to confess i do not know all the facts, so perhaps those in the know will clarify, but like the tittle says, if true its disgraceful behaviour and i will vote with my feet and take my custom elsewhere.
I think its about time these companies started showing some respect/gratitude/ thanks towards their customers. I may be only one customer and i wont break the company if i stop buying their products, but as someone who owns both an M5 and an X5 i would suggest i am the type of customer you dont want to piss off.
Make no mistake , all you car makers out there, if enough of us think like this we can seriously hurt the company.

Anyway, i seriously enjoyed the forum and i am very sorry to see it go.
Lastly i will add i am in no way shape or form connected/affiliated or related to anyone who has/had anything to with Mtorque or any other site.

Regards

Nat.
