M-torque shut down!?

Just spotted this bellow on their web site home page??!! Gustav have you/we had the same problems?? I'm not a member there but this sounds interesting and disturbing.

Jay

M-Torque Announcement

We are sorry to announce that as of September 15th 2009 M-Torque has ceased operation.
I personally would like to thank all of our regular users and contributors to the site over the last 8 years for their support through both the good times and the bad. The decision has not been taken lightly and is based on feedback from various users of the site and also ultimately the decision earlier this year by BMW AG to try and remove this site from the internet and the ensuing grief they piled on us.
To everyone who works for BMW UK and BMW AG you can thank your management for their part in this decision. This site has never been a commercial venture despite their ridiculous claims, yet BMW pursued us for many months with the intention of having this site removed from the internet, which considering this site was created to support their brand is, in my view, very short sighted and one that saddened me greatly, since a lot of time and effort has been put into this site by so many and ultimately destroyed any desire to support the brand.
If BMW wish to review their decision and work with us to build a community that again can work with BMW and support them, I would happily change this decision.
If you have any comments, feedback or indeed if BMW wish to contact us, then please feel free to write to mtorque@mtorque.co.uk, we cannot promise to reply to all messages received and we may even publish some on here. All the best, and happy and safe driving.. anyone seen the Nissan GTR.. a great car by all counts ;o) N-Torque anyone.. LOL

online community containing unknown amount of bmw m supporters is pursued and pressured to shut down by bmw?

something else going on here.

I kept tab's on this site but their strict rules on what email address theyed allow to join stopped me becoming a full member. There wasn't loads of M5 owners there but lots of z4 and e36/46ers on there.

I think it was a mostly UK site.

Whats happened is strange, I might have a look about on other forums and see whats said if anything further a field!

X5world, now renamed to Xoutpost, a site for BMW SAV enthusiasts also faced the same issue. They renamed, instead of shutting down, though.

So how do we escape BMW's all seeing eye here then specially as we have very obvious names associated with their marque??

I can't see how its in their interest to push forums underground or off the air!?

Mtorque was a great site - I remember my attending my first M meet organized by them (bm3w as they were then) back in 2001. Matt (their admin) was a top bloke who put a lot into our community. I've met some great people over the years from there and this is tragic news indeed. Makes me want to reconsider ever buying an M car again.. BMW are losing the plot and seriously pissing off a lot of people
