A little update. Just got back into town about a week ago after spending the summer hanging out in CA with Baller and Myke. Got a few things done including putting in a new windshield, bolting in some racing seats and 4 point harnesses and I ordered a new motor. It should be in by next week sometime. I went with a 540 cubic inch Chevy big block with 677hp and 582tq, aluminum heads, full stainless roller rockers, forged crank. In case anyone is interested in the specs of the motor and its internals, here they are:

ffice:smarttags" name="place"> Machine Work

  • align bore and or check for run out.full race clearancing

  • Dynamic balance assembly..
  • File fit rings - blue print clearance...
  • Install cam bearings - freeze plugs...
  • Port blue print cylinder heads...
  • Final assemble full rotating and top end
    • Parts including final torque - clearance - and geometry of all parts...

The place I got it from had a bunch of inventory on hand so they needed to get rid of some stuff so I got a really good deal. It is going to come with a 950 dominator carb and it's turnkey, so I'll just drop it in. I'm going to pair it with a Turbo 400 tranny (which, from what I've heard were overbuilt in the first place and should be able to handle all the power fine).

I was thinking pretty hard about rebuilding the Pontiac 455 motor currently in it, but it just didn't make sense because of their propensity for catastrophic failure since they inherently weaker than their Chevy counterparts (454/502). It should be a fun motor to have in this car. I'll add some pics of it in the car when I get it in within the next 3 weeks or so.

I think a digital dash would be cool since you're not keeping it all original. My brother has one in his 74 Caprice and it looks OK.

I really cant stress enough a few things.

1) You should pull ALL the carpet up and see what else has rust on it.

2) Make sure chassis is still cool. Frame rails and other bits, again look for what I call "rust holding hands". Basically the only thing keeping certain parts together is rust and rust,

3) Make sure all mounting points and rubber stuff has not cracked on vital high stress areas.

4) Brakes, Brakes, Brakes!!!!! Upgrade them. Do lines and check the booster and the hoses as well.

5) Suspension, (please see above)

That car is BAD AZZ!! I really like it.

Thanks Cos -- definitely good advice. I've got a Hotchkiss Total Vehicle Suspension System I'm gonna put on her as well as a Baer BBK. I'll make sure all the structural integrity hasn't been compromised by any rust for sure!

Update:

So I've got the car in the shop having the motor installed. Just waiting for the ceramic coated headers, subframe connectors and Flowmaster Mufflers to come in. I decided to pair the motor with a Turbo 400 with a 3000 stall. I expect the car to be driveable within the next 10 days and will post back once I get her back.

On a side note, I will be selling the old 455 motor paired to the Turbo 350 with a shift kit

Numbers of interest are as follows
Date Code: K092
Casting Number: 485428

I do have other information on the engine if anyone is interested PM me
