Am I the only one worried that he will loose his multi-car insurance discount?

This is like "do I give it all back and hold on for whats behind door number 3?".

Good luck Dan, you certainly don't need more advice from me. You have plenty of support here.

Dan, oops or are you smiling? Your post is possibly one of the wildest and most provacative ever on the board even though none of us is involved or affected in any way. I wonder if you would like to take it back? Too late. You are obviosly smart, but you are still 20, I very much doubt you would have posted that if you were 30 or even 25. So let it die - or step it up with more explaination and accept the controversy. We are of course all ears.

By the way, I have had a few meals, karting sessions and conversations with Dan over the last year. He's not a regular 19 or 20 year old (they don't drive M5s for starters) but he is younger by far than most of us, and he is a good guy. He has laid out a lot of rather personal information here and maybe he wishes he hadn"t. He does not OWE any of us any explanations, proof or even further comment regarding this thread, although it will probably live for awhile without him. Also know that Dan has made signifcant contributions to this board over a long period so be respectful as you advise or flame him. Dan is not Fury.

It seems impossible for me to believe that Dan could have _earned_ that kind of money. I'm soon 20 and I have worked every summer etc. and eventhough I would have put every cent on good stocks at the right time, I would not have nearly as much money as bobafett here has. Maybe he just comes from a rich family? I guess we'll never know:-(

Dan -

Although you are only 20 - it strikes me that you need to either create or revise your goals in life. It seems that at this point in your life you have two competing goals.

1. A genuine love for exotic cars.
2. A desire to excel to very high levels of net worth.

What I'd do is (as many others have advised) simply quantify those two goals.

Again, as others have said, you have to balance your life. I'm almost positive you'd be unhappy driving the Toyota for 18 months while trying to achieve the net worth goal. Why not lower the net worth goal by roughly $2m (that's what I figure the M5 is worth to you ($75k x 25X) and drive the M5? (Damn - an M5 "worth" $2M - thats love for the car!).

As for the doubters, I cetainly don't know Dan - but I am friends with serveral individuals who are in what I'm guessing is a similar position to Dan. The profile is someone in early 20's who inherited or controlled some amount of wealth (usually 500k to $1m) and were able to parlay it into $25M +. I've only participated on the board for a short period of time, but Dan (and those who vouch for him (Greg, etc)) are well respected and deserve the benefit of the doubt.

tt, this is Sllicon Vally, where a 16 year old kid helps a startup creat a website, and get some stock in the company instead on money. Four years later the kid is a multi millioner. This was not an unusual story in this parts...

Too many words were written here, some very nice, some others not as nice (or politically correct should I say?), I'll add my portion of nonsense, however stupid it might sound:

There is one single point that calls my attention from the very first post, keeping in mind that we are all different people from very different backgrounds and origins:

Why would someone seek advice on such private matters as his/her private economy and investment through a wide open and world-wide reachable messageboard ? ? ?

(IMHO: do not ever make public your private life. keep it for yourself, people don't care if you are a poor *****, but people might care if you are rich/wealthy, you never know whom you're talking to or who is listening/reading)

Who knows the facts so deeply as to be able to evaluate the nature of what he/she might be up to? I doubt anyone does (I sure don't, but being a member having access to read his/her post, allows me to feed whatever BS I can think of, right?), but I might be mistaken here or misread the post...

If any person here seeked advise, wouldn't it be more sensible to post something like:" hey guys/gals, I'm about to sell some of my properties (cars/estates/boats/pension funds/whatever) and need some advice for a major investment, anyone here willing to help with some input? " and do it via pm or e-mail ?

Advertising whatever my intentions are regarding my very private economy is not something people does, specially not on the net! (Unless by doing it I get a profit...ha ha ha).

And lastly, my main reason to post this:I simply do-not-get-it...: what was the idea behind the post?

1) to say farewell to the board?
2) to let everybody know how rich I am ? or how richier I'll become? or both?
3) to pre-announce that 'next time you see me I'll be driving a Citroen 2cv'? (or whatever car other than what I've said I own/ed)
4) to stealthly poll the board for opinions on the subject for a totally different & untold reason? i.e. some kind of college work?
5) WHAT???

I don't challenge the wealth and the properties Dan claims to have, it is a private thing of his, is the spirit of the post that bugs me...I might be seeing things from a different point of view, yet having a different point of view does not mean I'm right and he is wrong, it is only...different.

I think you're right about that..

Dan is simply trying to get the input from some pretty successful people on this board. If I had a really tough question or decision to make about something, I wouldn't seek advice from a bum on the street! so, he is asking the board, which includes some pretty sharp folks...

It's as simple as that.

HotRod

PS: I don't know Dan, but it took a lot of courage to ask what he did IMHO...hopefully, we have helped him in the decision-making...

Yes, indeed, it's possible. It's also why prices for almost everything are skyhigh here and only now slowly coming back down a bit.

I agree with Marcelo. It is not good talking about those things in a public messageboard.

A financial consultant works in our family bussiness and we don't have an 8 digit account at all...I'm very sure Dan is very smart but not enough for administer that huge inheritance ( for what I read he has 8 digits - Man, that is a lot - ). Remenber he is just 20...I think he needs help from a very expert consultant(s).

I can't really understand why he has posted this thread.

My two eurocents.
