I would like to put this thread up as a "sticky" and re-vist this 2 years after the Presidential and Congressional elections...should Obama win..lets see how many supporters are still that....same with McCain....my bet is that there will a BOATLOAD of disenchanted Democrats....that is if there even is a M5board in two years with the way the economy is going...we may have to pawn our beloved Beasts
As an aside..all this Jesus talk...Hate to say it but I agree with Wayward on this...for me personally Jesus is the Son of God...as far as this scholarly historical investigation of His life as Man???....who is to say that the Gospels according to the Apostles is NOT true???...History/events were passed through word of mouth and then when we figured out "Hey maybe this is really important" we started writing them down...lol..I'm sure things may have gotten the authors twist..but to say that it was all BS??...sorry the Scholars need to relax a bit.
There mini rant over.

Speaking of communist state; Obama campaign tries to control media (more so than the left wing media already is in the pocket of the democrats) by attempting to freeze media release of anchor drilling Biden....
That was a well thought-out response, if I may say so.
I'm really hoping that trol will continue to contribute to this thread, since I've come to respect his contributions here.
Effectively, we're not talking right vs. wrong or differences in beliefs per se (as stated, we all share a planet with nearly 7 billion others, and to each his/her own -- this I respect greatly.)
This thread has skewed more than a bit (in part my fault). But when we return on-topic, the whole Palin thing (pro or con) esp. with regard to the con, ends up as an indictment of the critics, IMO.
Frankly, if it were up to me, I'd clean house in Washington -- the proverbial fire sale -- everyone must go. Let's get some genuine humans (ha!) to move the country forward and do the RIGHT thing, as opposed to that which the lobbyists have long dictated. Summarily speaking, I for one am sick of the BS.
As to foreign policy, enemies of the US or any given country will always exist -- most times in terms of strong-arm tactics for economic leverage on their behalf (as well as reelection, ie: appearing strong for their often military-based government). Sometimes diplomatic policy should prevail in the interests of peace, sometimes not -- but I want a proven, tested, experienced man at the helm in that regard -- someone who looks out for everyone concerned (not himself or his party). Simple really, but what else is new?
Sadly, all of of this is apparently too much to ask. Money, and more importantly -- entitlement -- talks.
I suspect many disenchanted folks in a few years. Neither candidate will be able to deliver on campaign promises, the money isn't there. Unemployment & taxes will go up and entitlements and services will go down. Not the end of the world, society will go on, regression to the mean.
Article in today's WSJ states GM and Chrysler both have <12 months of cash left. "GM and Chrysler 'are basically waiting on the government,' said one person involved in the merger talks. 'The three choices are bankruptcy, a big intervention from the government or some big deal like this (GM - Chrysler merger) that has massive cost-cutting possibilities,' this person said. 'That's it.'"

I agree that the next administration will be hamstrung due to cesspool that eight years of Bush jr have left us with. It will not be an easy road back from where we are today no matter who is in the White House.
As for the 'Jesus stuff', apologies if I offended anyone. There will always be faith-based 'literalists' and more objectively inclined. But critical examination of sacred texts does not necessarily mean throwing the baby out with the bathwater. It can foster a deeper understanding and provide more power and relevance. Imho, it can also foster insight into common ground between all the world's religious traditions.
Dave
I think there is wisdom in Dave's comments, much can be learned through the teachings of Jesus, Siddhartha, Moses, Confucius, Aristotle, Martin Luther, Gandhi, Chuang Tzu and others.
The acquisition of knowledge and insight can foster common ground between the world's religions.

On a lighter note, bought some rodenticide.
"I see you have a politician problem" the clerk says.
"I don't think the company makes enough for that problem" I replied.
