I would recommend memory foam (tempurpedic etc.) The only downside I have experienced is if I sleep on my side and turn in sleep, it can hurt - due to the warm foam being softer and hence grooved much more than colder surrounding areas.

Some of the benefits:

1. All my neck and back pains gone, completely.
2. I no longer wake up my wife if I get up late in night to sneak to m5board (yes, that's it, that is what I do when I sneak out of bed late at night, nothing to do with emptying the fridge)
3. Very comfortable to lie down on after a long day. Its rare for me to be tired (no, I don't have unlimited energy, just don't get to work my body enough) - but still, the relaxed feeling I get when I first lie down on it is worth the price tag alone.

Down sides:

1. Price, ofcourse
2. We can no longer sleep anywhere else. We always end up leaving friends' house even if its really late and it makes sense to sleep over.

If you really want the best, this is it:

http://www.hastens.com/en-us/Beds/Co...-beds/Vividus/

It's a truly crafted, no-compromise design. They have stores in NJ and NY, so you can go test it out.

On the negative side though, they did just raise the price from $49,500 to $59,750, I believe.

I charge an arm and a leg when I put in 160 hours for any of my clients, but this is just pushing it

No question! But he did say "best" with no mention at all of pricing or value. If you're talking absolute best, this is it.

Hastens are excellent.
