loud068 Just installed dual exhaust cutouts, magnaflow mufflers and new tips. Sounds amazing at 6-7k. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muOHuQjuOa0

Novabimmer New here. I had an E46 330i for a while, went to a 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 when I got back from Afghanistan, then traded that two years ago for a 2014 Chevy Impala when my wife was pregnant. The car was nice, all the tech and comfort I could want. But recently I realized that the car just wasn't fun to drive.

So I started hunting. Looked at a couple W220 and W221 AMGs and an S600. Outstanding cars, but I couldn't find one in my price range that didn't need $10k worth of work (ABC problems galore). My wife asked why I didn't look at another BMW. My 3er was great, but wasn't sure I wanted to go back.

So I started looking around at BMWs again. Knew a 3 series wouldn't cut it with wanting to be able to stuff a baby seat in the back. I was expecting to find a decent 535, but ended up finding an 08 M5 SMG for a song in Reading, PA. Had it checked out, came back with zero major issues. Sold the Chevy, drove 3 hours to go get the M5, and never looked back. Got the car plus a 24/24 warranty for a good chunk under NADA price.

Bottom line, I gave up a bunch of tech and comfort (and gas mileage, jeebus this thing drinks more than a sorority girl with a box of Franzia), but I'm really happy to be back in a car that's a blast to drive again. I've got a 60 mile commute, but the Ducati sees that commute on all but the worst days.

BTW, I read a great deal of your injector-hydrolock adventure/resolution...that was both epic and great BOLO for this car.

Thanks again.

Due diligence aside, feel like I'm stepping off cliff with this so-far unseen machine, I will either soar with the eagles or descend into the darkness of rod-bearings and VANOS

(For record I've turned wrenches on a lot of rides, would never consider machine like this if that wasn't the case).

Mileage is higher on this example then several others I found. But after shopping all over the country for several months (and lurking through pages and pages...and more pages of posts here), more it seemed to me one is buying the previous owner(s) more than any mileage - an adage true with any used car but especially it seems a Beast.

Particular example I purchased is two-owner history car, and impeccably maintained - not a tear, not a paint-chip, not one error-code, bone-stock zero boy-racer car. The last owner (owned it for six years) is fifty-year old exec who put mostly highway miles on it and traded it in on a brand new Range Rover; and the M5 went through the Rover dealer's pre-owned process before making it to the lot with flying colors. I do believe I've got a gem M5 here. Will post pix when I've got in the driveway, and is real-to-me past just signing paperwork.

BTW, does anyone know if it is possible to get looser-clearance aftermarket conrod bearings? I know S65 clearance spec changed in 2011 (it doubled), but do not know if it is the bearings that changed with the spec, or if it was the machine tolerances on the crank for those engines? If it was the bearings, are the looser-clearance bearings the way to go when changing out ones in the S85?

In short, yes.

You should have your oil cooler checked too. Not sure how many miles yours has but my oil cooler started leaking around 65k miles. I believe this is a known issue with some cars.
