its either one or the other...

I have come to the conclusion that its either RMS or one other company that is going to be doing the serious power upgrades on my baby.

Now if i can just scrounge up $24,998 (i found a couple of quarters and bunch of pennies in my sofa cushions) after I get the suspension/wheel tire combo done ill be fine. I figure about a year and ill be happy.

Any one get Sport Compact Car Magazine? Well im planning on entering their Ultimate Street Car Shootout next year....if you dont bring crazy power you go home. Now will i need 550hp or 600hp or maybe even 650???....mm

I think you'll need LOTS more than that to compete with the forced induction crowd (Supra/FD/300ZX). It's pretty easy to get 700+hp out of those motors and more if you want to go internals.
Heck, even the WRX can be made to FLY for not too much $$$$.

As much as I want to believe in all this, it just can't be this easy. Something's go to give... I mean, it's like that old adage: If it's too good to be true, it usual is...

Time will tell if the S62 engine is able to handle this type of power. If anyone can shed some light on this I'd totally appreciate it, because I think this thing is incredible.

Will this engine survive?

ahh...forget the 13B, 2JZ and all them...i have S62

Fast,

you are right many of those guys could put up serious HP numbers but if you look at the articles for the Super Car Challange most only put out about 550. After that point traction is just to limited. There was a supra that made more than 1000HP and he didnt make it in (granted you must first be voted into the finals round) but alot of cars show fancy HP ratings and dont make it. The most power with complete package makes the grade.

they grade for: emissions, comfort, livability, quarter mile, 0-60 and skid pad and burn out. The M5 even in its most ferocious form would KILL in the first three categories.

Ill just have to wait and see the competition for next years finals...which should come out in april or so.

Re: Re: its either one or the other...

1 naturally aspirate horsepower is greater than 1 boosted horsepower.

The naturally aspirated cars tend to have a higher area under the HP curve, an easier to control and therefore drive power curve, and tend to have less trouble with overheating and exploding when performing some demanding task like road racing.

which just reminded me
has anyone looked into the possibility of stroker kits for the M5? Maybe bumping it to 5.5 or 6 liters or something?

jmott:

The M5 block has already been bored out to 4.9 from the 4.4 liter found in the 540, x5, etc. I do not beleive there is much more room for displacement. BMW seems to make their engines very efficient(sp) from the factory so there is not much tuning capabilities there. Not like the C5, which is a tuner's dream. What does the C5R have for displacement?, 7.9 liters or someting out of a stock LS1 !!!

The 4.4 is a bored out version fo the E34 540's 4.0 liter engine too, right?

I also remember Tom Salkowsky mentioning that the displacement on the current block is maximized already.

Yeap... It's not just the E34s that had the 4.0l engine. Early E38s had em too.

More and more I'm beginning to think the 996TT is a great bargain. Especially pre-owned.

If I had to pay $45K for the Dinan package, I would just move to another platform. Even if it has 600hp, I doubt it will beat a Turbo with even $10K worth of mods.

So then the price becomes a wash... ok, you do get 2 more doors with the M5, but that's about it.

Dealer: Sir, we suggest changing the pads cuz they are at less than 50% and at this rate... You will soon be back for pads and discs replacement!!!!!

That was the message i got when i called them to see if the car was ready !! Anyway.. i go them changed and its back

Now just have to wait for the esp programmer to arrive to email osh with the car's data and hopefully if everything is ok.. so that the boost could be tweaked.

Triflow,

You can go for a much cheaper option you know.. the stage I SC kit... which should be in the 500 hp region for 11,000 plus labor.. so what do you think ?
