Whoa Simon. Didn't even know you were looking for a new exhaust. Did you get it installed yet?

Definitely am considering this, but I'm not sure about the X-pipe. I think the exhaust by itself may be loud enough for me. Although, I suppose I could just buy it and install it later if need be. I could sell it at the price I bought it for, which would be less than the regular price. Hmmm.

How often do you drive your M5?
I would say if its a daily driver, then try the mufflers only first.
If its not a daily driver, then go for the x-pipe also.
All in all, I asked in other threads whether or not the SS-race & x-pipe would be louder than the E-race only. Seems the consensus was that the E-race only would still be louder than the SS-race & x-pipe. However, for me, I prefer the tone of the SS over the E regardless of decibals.
Hope that helps a little.

It's my daily driver about 90% of the time. I'm thinking about going ahead with this.

On another note, I was listening to the Supersprint video of the M5 on the dyno in Italy - that one is loud!

Don't know exactly how much volume the headers add, but the SS race with x-pipe AND headers in the video I posted before is, I would estimate, still not as loud as the Eisenmann race alone (assuming you've heard the Eisenmann before). If you're really unsure, I would just try the cans first, and if it's too subtle, put on the x-pipe. Like you said, you could probably sell it and not lose money since you're getting it discounted.
