Straight form the Supersprint CEO from the headoffice in Italy.

"I'd like to inform you and the entire M5 community that Supersprint will also have a cat-back exhaust very soon, in both the classic, road-legal, TUV homologated version, and in a more radical, lightweight race version.

Alongside the M5, we will also offer an exhaust for the E63 M6, with similar carachteristics.

But most importantly, Supersprint will also pioneer in developing a full performance system, which includes headers, and metallic cats. Our headers will share some of the very same technical, exclusive features of the authentic F1, V10 race engine headers, while the remaining Supersprint exhaust components will complement them to perfection, thanks to the Supersprint trademark tecnology and design..

This combination will guarantee the best gains and the greatest sound, as found on all of the finest performance road cars equipped with a full Supersprint exhaust system.

Needless to say, we expect to get a healty increase in performance over the stock exhaust, as well as over any other basic cat-back system.

From our initial, brief evaluations of the stock M5 exhaust system, the cat-back section is not restrictive as most people may think, and not much performance can be made by a mid-and-back exhaust only, regardless of its design and pipe sizing.

The key exhaust components to getting the most out of the M5 V10 engine will be the headers and the cats, just like on the E39 M5 V8. While the E60 stock headers' design itself looks like it's been laid out way better than the older M5 design, the multiple-cat, stock system certainly diminishes the headers' true performance potential by a considerable amount.

This may be due to the extremely strict limitation of the emissions that the BMW Factory has to obey, however this remains a fact which all of the M5 owners have to face.

We repeat, based upon our experience with the exhaust system we made for another V10 engine in the recent past, that the M5 enthusiasts who will opt for a Supersprint exhaust will certainly be rewarded with astounging results.

The new Supersprint exhaust will be available in the US at BMP, as always. Pre-orders of the Supersprint cat-back components, which will be fully compatible with the stock cat system anyway, will be accepted by BMP, starting from July 5th."

Re: Supersprint Exhaust for the M5 and M6 V-10, information form the VP.

I'm very tempted - the standard E60 exhaust is a disappointment (the car sounds like a diesel when idling). Any ideas on pricing yet?

Interesting that Supersprint feels that the biggest improvement, i.e., horsepower, will come from the headers and not the exhaust (similar to E39 M5). This even though BMW is supposed to have developed higher performance headers for the E60 M5 than the E39 M5. Wonder how much improvement their redesigned headers will provide? Wonder if the difference will be as great for the E60 (vs. E39)?

The other V-10 car the yhad expeience with was the Lamborghini Gallardo.

Exhaust:

"The expected delivery time of the very first batch of Supersprint cat-back systems is late September. Maybe earlier, but it still is not certain."

Headers:
"As for the headers and metallic cats, we've already built our 5-into-1 merge collectors, and we are currently in the process of designing at least two different versions of headers, one headers using constant cross-section primary tubes, another headers using "step section" primaries. The whole developement process of the headers + cats will most likely take a few months, and we expect delivering these exhausts later this year."

Reply from Supersprint:

"In a way similar to the E39 M5, Supersprint is going to offer 2 versions of rear mufflers for the new E60 M5, one set of street legal mufflers, with a TÜV homologation, which had been shown to the public in its prototype stage, and one set of lightweight, race mufflers. We will also offer a center, resonated exhaust, and a straight mid-pipe section, from the cat back down.

All of the above mentioned exhaust parts will be interchangeable, that means that the Supersprint street legal mufflers can be used with the stock mid-exhaust, or with the Supersprint resonated center exhaust, or with the Supersprint straight mid-pipes.
The same goes with the Supersprint race mufflers.

By using different combinations of Supersprint exhaust components, different types of sound, and different levels in db output will be acheieved. The increase in performance guaranteed by any of these possible combination will be very similar, since both the street and the race mufflers, as well as the resonated center exhaust, do share the same inner core pipe diameter.

The larger volume of the street mufflers' cans will provide a lower sound note, when compared to the race mufflers, as most may already expect. However, the exhaust gas flow rate and the backpressure will be the same.

The race mufflers will guarantee an even greater saving in weight, and a louder exhaust note over the Supersprint street mufflers, which already are considerably lighter than the stock ones.

The suggestions about the application of each individual Supersprint exhaust component are similar to the E39 M5. While the final decision on which set-up of Supersprint cat-back exhaust to use is left to personal choice of the individual, as several considerations may be taken into account, we strongly recommend to use the street mufflers only, to any one who plans on switching to the Supersprint headers and metallic cats in the near future, or to anyone who puts comfort on top of his driving priority list.

This set up may sound quieter than expected in the beginning, however it will be the only exhaust which offers the perfect blend of sport sound and subdued note, even for everyday commuting, when the full SS headers setup is in place.
Our race mufflers do offer a throatier, more aggressive sound when mated to the stock headers and cats, however their use in conjunction with the Supersprint headers is strictly limited to the racetrack, for practical reasons.

The Supersprint race mufflers are the ideal exhaust choice for anyone who will keep the stock headers and cats in his car for a reasonably long time to come.

Their sound level of this syetem at 5800 is 95db (stock is 88.5db), which means that it will be universally accepted by the law, with the exception of the Countries where only an exhaust with a TÜV-KBA omologation is legal.

Using the Supersprint, straight mid pipes will further raise that level by a few db."

Sounds very tempting. I like the way you can configure the setup to get just the sound you like.

any updates or sound clips yet ?

Sean, is the first "big boxey" exhaust the sports version and the second the race version ?

no not really.. i think its small (smaller than the e39 especially cabin room) but im thinking about it

regarding the exhaust, its clear that its smaller and u can see that it is by looking at the end of the tail pipes and begining of the muffler's edge.

Black M5

You are correct. The larger muffler bodies are the street systems and the smaller muffler bodies are the sport systems. The sport systems have been very popular for this model offering ~10% more sound volume. Since the OEM exhaust is virtually silent, this option really allows you to hear the v10 working it's magic!

Thx supersprint. Im downlaoding the video of the prototype now. Its very quiet. I hope it doesnt turns out as quiet as the SS e39 mufflers.. cuz i have them

Chris, i've got the whole lot for my M5 minus racing seats !! I only asked about the system for the e60 cuz im thinking about the e60 m5 but havent made up my mind yet. So you can say im planning ahead in the case i give it the nod. I know the racing version will sound good but i dont want it to sound too much say like the eisenmann racing version in the case the headers and whole lot was to be added to the racing mufflers

regards,
Abdulla
