Hey guys, I have started up a group buy for people that want to buy the custom 1M bumper molded for E60 or E9xs. I originally started the GB on my BCD Facebook page and 5series, and have almost filled up the 10. I just got mod approval to post this, so maybe there will be some M5 guys that want to jump in!

So here's my original posting for the GB on my FB page (and refer to my FB page for pictures):

Big announcement! For all you guys that have been inquiring about the 1M bumper for the E60, I have reached an agreement with the shop to do a group buy to custom fabricate 10x 1M bumpers! Bumpers can also be pre-painted to your color, and shipping can be arranged!

Fyi, the last 1M bumper that was custom made for the E60 was $2500, so you're looking to save quite a bit getting in on this GB. Furthermore, it is unlikely that another one of these GB will be set up.

Lead time I just spoke to the shop owner will be less than 2 months for all 10 bumpers to be made. We are looking at $1600 for each bumper, and painting is $300. Shipping will be dependent on location of course
The bumper will be made out of polypropylene.

Well,

I guess I'm glad to see this finally happen, but there goes the one-off appeal of my front bumper!!! ouichSeriously, Simon, I'm glad you're organizing this as I've had tons of people ask me about mass producing mine. I just didn't have the time or the patience to deal with a group purchase, payment, fabrication management with the shop, painting, and shipping. It will be very cool to see more E60s with the 1M Facelift. At least I can say I was first... right?

Simon, I'm not sure how your shop plans to fabricate the bumpers, but I can give a little insight into the process. First, you can't achieve OEM fitment without using 2 OEM bumpers (even used these cost $400 each easily). Using similar plastics is critical. Sounds like your shop is doing it right by using OEM material so paint finish and shrink/stretch with temperature cycles will match. Second, there are LOTS of little parts between the bumper guard and the bumper itself that have to be accounted for in order to get good fitment. I actually had to mount the horns backwards so everything fit together. Third, I modified my brake ducts by combining new 1M ducts with my OEMs ($50 for ducts). The top portion that goes to the air ducts is blocked by my block off plates anyway, but to make the bottom section look OEM we fit the two together since the 1M air ducts have a different shape than the M5. Fourth, I had to buy new grille mesh for the 1M since the opening to the oil cooler is different (about $50). Fifth, if you have an aftermarket oil cooler (like RPI) you'll have to modify the brackets slightly to reduce the angle of the cooler and prevent it from touching the bumper. Sixth, not sure if the cuts made for the bumpers will use the OEM tow hook or the 1M, but we had to cut it out and then weld it back into place since it was right on one of the merging lines.

I'm not trying to scare anyone off from doing this mod at all as I think it's awesome. I have no idea how Simon's shop will construct the bumper so all this could be moot, but these are the things that I ran into during construction.

Congrats guys!

Q: are the two M5's Custom 1M Bumper done at the same place? cause the white M5 Looks brilliant but the blue does not lien up as well on the drivers side.

$1600 is a fair price, $2500 is Ridiculous! i think it maybe cause your using a shop on the west coast cause it would cost half that on the east coast.
That blue one is Dennis' and I've seen photos from several different angles and the construction looks spot on. I think it's just an effect of lighting and maybe the bumper being dirty.

Actually, $1600 is more than fair as the cost of the parts alone is at least 1/2 of this. I can tell you that I received quotes ranging from $2500 - $4500 for this mod and I'm on the East Coast Rico!!! I know you have a similar E46 mod, but I think yours is easier since your OEM bumper has a similar "shelf" shape to the 1M to mate against. It's not easy to properly merge the M5 and 1M bumper because of the different length and contours. You really have to know what you're doing or you can f*ck it up pretty easily.

Anyway guys, just my $0.02!! Congrats to all who choose to take the plunge!!

I'm not the owner of the vehicle, but after a close analysis of the picture - the reason why the front bumper looks misaligned is because of the contrast difference in the freshly painted bumper and the dirty paint on the fender.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

Thanks for the input Anthony! Yes, I did get this question asked of me yesterday from a member that is currently in the GB.

The shop that made these bumpers definitely take these things into account when molding the M5 bumpers to the 1Ms (since they are different than regular E60s) :)

As far as the tow hook, I don't believe that the shop we will be using have this problem. Maybe the fusion area was not done entirely the same between my shop and Anthony's would be my guess. I will reach out to the shop and confirm.

Lastly, you are right about the price Anthony. This bumper usually would go for $2500 at least, so this is a really good price for anyone that have any notion of wanting this bumper!

Payments are coming in! Please continue the progress!

Come on people! Just need 1 more for the group buy to reach 10 and close! I have guys that have paid and those who haven't replied to invoice, I'll wait a few days and maybe just close it off at 5. No reason for the guys that have paid to wait around. Picture originally from @redrum5smg! Love your wheels! ‪#‎bosscatdesigns‬

Yes, that is correct. It is reasonable to say that it will be completed in half of the time of the original forecast.

#22 ·
Teknic, please get in contact with me. Some reason I feel that my messages to you are not being sent properly or seen -- as they are not even showing up in my "sent" folder for some reason.

Hey bud, I see your message, but for some reason, my messages aren't being sent to you as they don't show up in my sent folder.

Please email me at bosscatdesigns@gmail.com or hit me up on my Facebook's BCD page.

I am not a body shop, I prefer to call my office a lab to do headlights and other electrical mods :)

Do it Cleoent! I have actually reached an agreement with the shop to go ahead and produce since I have 5 paid already, so these paid guys will get their bumpers made. And depending on my patience, I may just close up the group buy, lol.

#26 ·
Teknic, still waiting to hear from you!

I actually have enough people that paid already, so will be dropping people off that has not paid next week and go into production!

#33 ·
I wonder how this would look if the E90 M3 was molded in

#34 ·
Was molded in?

This has already been done on the 3 series.
