Big bore sizes often are an error. Just as reference, 2x 3 inches, which is what ASR uses, is good for roughly 1500 hp...
So not sure it is useful to make power, but for sure it does help produce drone...

As a general rule I would agree with you Coolcat. Turbos want the biggest diameter and shortes exhaust, no exhaust is nearly best (within reason) for turbos but NA is a little bit more complicated but keeping gas volcities up with a suitably sized exhaust eg not to big normally pays dividens in power and torque/torque spread.

Most aftermarket exhaust (true name, not this horrible 'race' name they seem to like lol!) like big diameter tubing because it looks good. These systems have a massive percentage increase in internal diameter over stock but from the outside look similar, this is because the standard system is double walled hence the big weight saving when you change them out for 'race' system and there you have it, drone and bassy noise!!

Actually did one yesterday and will get it up here tonight...

A couple of other questions to answer:

1. Cold Start - loud, like wake babies loud, started it up this morning and a guy a couple of hundred feet away stopped and staired... My 16yo son, who loved it even commented, "Dad, think this is a little over the top?"
2. Idle, initial loud, but warmed up, it is not noticeable or obtrusive...

Now, to all please remember two things:
1. I am susceptible to drone
2. It's my opinion only on the drone

Now, with those being said here are some parameters related to my initial thoughts...
1. I waited for a long time, like others and had inflated expectations
2. I foolishly "believed" in the perfect world exhaust - quiet but a screamer, subtle but boisterous when pushed, etc... etc...

Heres what I got:
1. A VERY well made (fit / finish) exhaust
2. A loud but beautiful F1 sound that I will never get tired of
3. some cabin drone / vibration

Like the SMG, I am learning to drive the car in a way that the negatives are lessened and the positives are enhanced...

On the way to work this morning, 70mph cruise in 7th was not an issue, but step on the gas and it's drone, but this can be lessened by gear changes. Idle - quiet, no issues... Sound - pure aural extascy... F1 all the way, love tunnels and bridges now!
Vibration, when you somewhat lug the engine, like accelerating in 7th at highway speeds you do feel the buzz, also, when I started it, it vibrated a soft drink can in the rear cup holder... And NO, my exhaust is not touching anything, I watched the whole install and it was not against anything. This is frequency vibration due to the low tones the system produces...

The bottom line is that I was more judgmental in the beginning due to the issues surrounding it's arrival, i.e. less open minded... Honestly, I felt I had almost ruined the car... I was planning on putting my RD Sports back on (and this system had no drone, resonators removed, secondary cats in place)...

Now, I have either learned to drive "around" the issues, become less critical, or gotten used to the noise... I love the sound, run it more in the 3K to 7K than I did before. Did I say I loved the sound...

I just want to be honest and not "pre-color" anyones opinion on here. Once I stopped trying to listen or ***** over every little thing, it became what it is, a really excellent exhaust system... In short, initial impressions are just that, and with a little seat time, the true nature comes out...

Thank you for the nice write up. My exhaust has arrived in Frankfurt. I have to pick up a customs form, get a larger vehicle to pick it up. Abid, says the box is probably too big for an X3. I will then drop off the exhaust at the performance shop and make an appointment to have it installed soon.

I ordered the Panavise 809 Camera Window Suction Cup Mount from Amazon last night.

My car wont be finished from Swissvax until Wed afternoon.

Eticket, thanks for the "day after" review

I understand your initial impression but also how it has evolved after just a day, I can imagine it will be even better after a few weeks (just like with the SMG). This is the kind of impression I was expecting myself

Glad to hear that the positives are now outweighing the negatives! Looking forward to the videos!

A quick question, with a warm engine, is it possible (with an egg under the throttle) to drive the car "quietly", like coming down your street late at night without waking the neighbours?

Eticket, Thank You for the postive feedback and your honest opinion! I'm glad to see you are happy with the final product and thank you again for being so patient!

For those that aren't aware, Eticket's car is an M6 not an M5. This makes a considerable difference since all M6's are louder in cabin even in stock form than M5's due to cabin size and lack of sound deadening material compared to an M5. The same system on an M5 will be quieter in cabin.

is that what matters Abid? what about those still waiting for their tracking numbers while others already installed their systems? what about the *** hole who paid you in full to avoid the group buy and get his exhaust first what about next week.....?!!
