Hmmm in anticipation of low rpm cruising drone I just did some consumption tests at 80mph with 7:th vs 5:th gear and the results are not really what I was hoping for...

Consumption at 80 mph (130 kph):
7:th gear (3k rpm) = ~1.3 l / 100km
5:th gear (4k rpm) = ~1.8 l / 100km

This means cruising in 5:th rather then 7:th gear results in almost 40% higher fuel consumption (which is already bad to start with...)

This means it will be very hard to motivate using 5:th for long distances... Both due to that you reach 40% shorter distance on a tank and need to pay the same amount more in fuel... That's not going to work. If many who went with the "drone less" S system feels that its unbearable after testing the system for a while - We need a drone remedy solution from ASR!

EDIT ADDITION:
I understand that a lighter, less restrictive (=more power) and louder exhaust comes with compromises to comfort. I can live with some drone if there is a good reward at high RPM and throttle, but It can't be unbearable (like headache after 5 few min with girlfriend constantly complaining unbearable) at 7:th gear at 80mph since shifting to lower gears will have such a drastic effect in consumption and range. For me this is most likely a larger issue then for most as the M6 is my only car and I use it to work each day (while having phone conferences), for for long hauls as well as weekend joyrides.

As per Rangers comment 6:th would be better but I guess you end up with consumption between 5:th and 7:th which means about 20% worse mileage which is quite bad...

Thanks Eticket for the useful comments about clearance when installing (and to Cool Cat for the electric wire tip!). Im sure that if you feel direct vibrations it does touch the chassis somewhere and transmit vibrations directly. I had the same problem with a top of the line HKS exhaust on my 350Z, I had to cut away some of the cooling bits from the diff to make it clear properly, after 5-6 attempts it was OK...

A lot of you seemed very concerned with drone, I know it can be annoying at times.

But waht I am really hoping for is that I will not be disappointed with sound quality and will it sound the same as the E race or RPI GT? Different sounding? More aggressive or less aggressive, raspy? Still has the F1 sound but better? I wish APR made some videos for us to see the new toy in action.

Of course how well well it truly performs with it's competitors in true numbers.

Butt dyno feels?

Yes Kreative i agree

I am an engine sound freak and I love engine sounds, good engine sound makes me shiver and gives me goosebumps! The engine note alone is one of the key reasons why I bought the M6 (the high revving S85 V10 engine and its sound compared all other cars in the world in the same price range).

To me how the exhaust will make me feel when going from 3k to 8k rpm and up through the gears at full throttle is by FAR the most important thing. But it needs be be MAGIC if there is significant annoying drone at standard cruising speed or it will eat that pleasure quickly.

I guess its no use in speculating until we have heard and tried it ourselves and then make a judgement after having tried it for a few weeks. Im looking forward to getting mine installed to find out

Ranger
I beg to differ, on two of my Vettes, the 00 and the 05, both had Corsa's with RSC, they were aggressive at WOT, great sounding at idle, and had no drone what so ever... It also had more of the F1 "type" sound, granted nothing like the V10, but still...

With that exhaust, I did "have it all"...

Eticket Where those exhaust on the vettes catback like just the mufflers, im not saying ours are completely catback, but they do get rid of the secondarys and resonators, maybe thats why their loud and drone compared to your old one. with that said i have never put an aftermarket exhaust on any of my cars, so i hope i dont get annoyed.
