ASR CAI Update

Our latest information on the ASR CAI is that we should be done with manufacturing and ready to ship by the next 2-3weeks or so. At this time we will not be producing the system in Carbon Fiber since the whole process is quite time consuming and would take another 2-3 months to complete production. That's not to say it won't be an option in the near fututre. At this time the system will be made of CNC Billet Aluminum with a heat resistant coating made of a black chrome color. The color is not yet set in stone, but that is what we are leaning towards. Most of the members we have spoken to prefer this color over polished aluminum. Thank you guys for your patience!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember you saying that your product would cost significantly less than Dinan, when in fact your price is the only $4 cheaper:

http://www.dinancars.com/store/High-...59-p-3966.html

I understand the whole install charge (which both systems would require) as well as the software for the Dinan intake, but I don't think the Dinan intake requires the software for the product to function properly. As you said : "Lastly, you will not require an ecu re-flash for our CAI. The factory ecu is very aggressive at attenuating certain parameters within reason. As I've said before though, certain company's will try to upsell their customers with ecu re-flashes that are unecassary for a minor mod. Don't be fooled by this gimick. Although I believe a reflashed ecu will give additional gains when used in conjunction with our CAI, it is not necassary" see link to post #9 ASR Engineering CAI Dyno Results

In addition, the $2495 you are advertising is the groupbuy price, not the list price which will be right at $3k (more than Dinan).

Again, please don't take this the wrong way. I'm not attempting to be inflammatory, I'm just trying to get the facts straight. What's the deal?

I understand your concerns, so let me explain. The Dinan kit does require the software flash since you cannot run the larger mass meters without software programming involved. If anyone tells you any different they are being dishonest. So, that still puts us quite a bit cheaper than Dinan's intake, almost $1500 cheaper at the group buy price and almost $1000 cheaper at retail. Also, by documentation our system outperforms any competitor on the market. Not to say that one system is better than the other, since better doesn't only mean hp and tq figures. It is a matter of preference when your chosing one system over another. Believe me when I tell you, you will get what you pay for with our system.

My SA just told me today that the Dinan software upgrade for the Dinan MAF Intake upgrade is optional, not required and it will still work and show gains without their software.

My Dinan SA is as good as they come and is the respected resource in DFW for BMW ///M work.

Maybe I m thick or just a dick but explain why I would pay $2K more than a K&N kit? I am bringing to Mustang Dyno in two weeks and will see. ASR you guys seem great and what Juans car looks like is outstanding but I thought Dinan was nuts also. I don't mind spending dollars but amuse me if you want to and explain the huge difference

The K&N kit has been tested and proven to make no hp or even lose hp when the hood is closed on the dyno. This was not only tested by us, but also by many other members on this board. Not to mention CEL's since they didn't do their research on how the factory ambient air temp sensor needs to be with in a certain range of the air intake temp sensor. If they were familiar with BMW's and software programming they would know this. Also, it is not a CAI since the filters are not located in a direct cold air source. It baffles me how some company's can claim to call their systems "CAI" when they don't understand what the meaning really is. As far as the pricing is concerned, there is a huge difference in manufacturing costs when your talking about CNC'd aluminum billet parts from our mass meter housings to all of our brackets and tubing vs. what K&N offers with their kit Lastly. we have proven and backed every product we manufacture with posted dyno sheets on this board. We have seen and heard of many claims from many other companies, and no real dyno graphs to back the claims.

In the end there is not just one thing that makes our intake or Dinan's more expensive than K&N's. As you can see there are several different factors behind our cost differences.

Thank You for the positive comments in regards to Juan's car, they are very much appreciated!

Before we released our CAI, a customer called and asked if we could install a Dinan intake for him. I asked him if he had the ecu reflash for the intake and he said he was told he didn't need it either. I then called Dinan myself and spoke to the tech department. The answer from Dinan themselves is that it does require the reflash with their intake kit. My advice is that if you're considering the Dinan intake, you should call them directly and find out what they require.
