Have the same problem...my adjusters broke on driver side. Just a matter of time before they break on passenger side I assume. Will get metal adjusters and rebuild both.

How hard/easy was it to do yourself?

As easy or as hard as baking a cake.

You have an 01 so at least the glue on the headlights isn't like the ones on the 03 (so I hear).

Just bake open your stock headlights, replace adjusters, and re-bake to reapply and seal your lens.

The only problem after baking (if not properly sealed back) could be - the headlight on the rainy day can be fogged from inside.
And there is a way to exchange the adjusters without melting the headlight in the oven. There is no need to take lens out.

I would love to know the way to exchange the adjusters without melting the adhesive. Would you mind sharing the technique?

Hey Guys!

Some of you may know me on the other e39 boards as Mark@EACTuning. I have been repairing these lights as a service to the e39 community for nearly 5 years and pioneered the technique used to repair the 2003 lights that cannot be opened. I see a lot of other shops popping up saying they can do this repair and are charging more than I do and installing nylon crap for parts! I will beat any advertised price for this repair, just ask.

I only install aluminum adjusters and have repaired dozens of pairs of these lights. I just wanted to pipe in and make it known that not only do I offer my time at the most reasonable rates, I carry the best replacement adjusters your money can buy.

give me a ring at 800-208-6448 ext. 704 if you have any questions about getting parts or repairs for your Hella e39 lights.
