We don't have a "stock oil cooler", although the oil is routed through the plenum. When the coolant heats up, it tends to heat up the oil, which is counterproductive. We didn't touch the stock setup on the theory the extra capacity of the oil cooler will keep the oil cool enough and actually help a little with the coolant temps.
The big question is, where is the oil filter and the factory oil cooler in the oil circulation loop?
I think it would be best to get rid of the factory oil cooler completely, this might give slightly cooler coolant temps since it's not absorbing heat from the oil, and if the coolant is slightly cooler, it might help keep the oil temps under control too.

it also removes a heat sink from below the plenum.
Jerry, one thing i don't understand is your comment on warmer oil temps, how'd that happen?

Not sure if it is variation in outside temps and humidity or a difference in the addition of the oil cooler. I notice what appears to be a slight increase under cruising mode.
As for explanation, I can only assume that when the new oil cooler t stat is closed, the temp will run slightly hotter, when open, it will help keep the temps in check. I don't know if the extra plumbing (more distance to travel) or the increased capacity (about a quart and a half) has any impact on temps.
Regards,
Jerry

The thing is to have the correct oil temp for changing outside temps and humidity
which the stock system does an adequate job of. Problem is if you track the car, on a warmish day, you will overheat with the stock set up, assuming you're really driving. I've never had any issues on the street, but a summer track day, about 4-5 good laps is all it's good for before the oil and coolant temps start getting into dangerous territory.

Recent question of why oil may run slightly hotter with my setup.
I checked with my installer, who checked with his inside BMW source. No real explanation other than slightly different atmospheric conditions and possibly the extra capacity of oil keeps the heat slightly longer. But they did confirm that the OBC temp sensor is slow to react, so when I see 93-94C, it just a slow reacting temp sensor. So that would tie in with slightly higher heat capacity and slightly longer to shed it.
I did a few runs and when the temp hits 93 -94, it will suddenly plummet to 88. This is the Tstat opening up, probably shortly before I see the slow reacting temp sensor info on board.
Hope that helps.
Otherwise, car is running great, just turned 78k. Just waiting for the SC kit to come out...
Regards,
Jerry
