Quick answer:
1. The E60 550i Oil Radiator is huge, bigger than E60 M5 Oil Cooler (I think it's about twice bigger than M5).
2. Also the E60 545i and 550i Water radiator is about same size like M5 E39.
I was thinking to put it on my M5 because it has that electric fan, it's a BMW OEM part and that fan works great.
(2) I know Zionsville (or something like that) has an aluminum radiator with an electric fan ... but that one - to me at least - looks like one for a 1969 Chevy SS.
(2) I'd like to add that when saying "about same size" I stand on the fact that I've compared those two cars side by side and the size looks pretty much the same. I do not confirm the exact fitment or the exact size but overall they look equals. About same height and same length.
heres a simple solution we pool the 4gs for the dinan oil cooler buy one and copy it

To Come... dinan headers, stoptec bbk
I had spoken to someone at Dinan about the oil cooleer several months ago
I think they said it was possible to adapt the S3 oil cooler and it might be around $1000 bucks
I would 100 % pay a few hundred dollars more for the Dinan Setup
Dinan is open to the public and if you have issues they will take you in even with no appointment
as well as full warranties!!!!!
If DA makes it im sure its going to be some one elses part with a huge markup
-NO WARRANTY OR CUSTOMER SUPPORT
maybe for some... but dont tell them anything negative
Listen the big budget cars that are driving 2-3 of them are Fantastic
But my expirience with an item in the $650 range The Guys at DA are theives and dont stand By their product
I got tired of waiting, so I had one done. It wasn't too bad, final bill is not in, but somewhere between $500 and $750.
I used a Mocal 16 row oil cooler and the BMW filter housing discussed above already configured for an oil cooler. As noted it does have a T stat built in, so better control of oil cooling (or more specifically running warmer to get rid of impurities). It sits in the center of the grill, low, for plenty of air. If I add an IC later, it may have to be moved, but the hard work is already done.
The filter housing was bolt in, lines had to be fabbed and some brackets made. The installer said it was important which line you tapped for the supply line, I may see him this weekend to get the details.
The setup holds about an extra 1.5 quarts. When changing oil, the oil in the cooler will be trapped, so I will be adding about 8 fresh quarts to 1.5 old. Not terribly concerned as I am on a 7500 schedule anyway.
So far, car runs a tad warmer, (say, 2-5 degrees) but with an 87 degree T stat, no concerns. I will try to wring it out to see if I can get the oil medium hot.
Regards,
Jerrry

thats good news Jerry, if you care to add more details would be very helpfull since Im ready to do my own external oil cooler and eliminate the stock one

Well, I will do my best.
I have a 16 row Mocal oil cooler. I don't see a part number, but I can take rough measurements. I don't think it matters a whole lot as it shouldn't take too big a cooler to make the difference.
The filter housing appears to be 11 42 7 511 169. I also have a bunch of miscelllaneous hoses, adapters?, and a couple of hose couplings. I think An fittings, but I can check.
The new filter housing has the T stat built in. Our current system has no T stat.
We don't have a "stock oil cooler", although the oil is routed through the plenum. When the coolant heats up, it tends to heat up the oil, which is counterproductive. We didn't touch the stock setup on the theory the extra capacity of the oil cooler will keep the oil cool enough and actually help a little with the coolant temps.
Let me know what other info I can supply for the good of the order.
Regards,
Jerry

The Following User Says Thank You to gsfent For This Useful Post:
I have spoken via email to CA automotive and they said for around 600 (whatever currency they have ) i can gat the kit ....and for an extra 200 have a solenoid or temp sensor so not to cool down the oil to much or let the oil get to operating temp

So how is it have you driven much since the install?
So how is it have you driven much since the install?
A few hundred miles, but nothing hard. No real noticeable difference, except the oil runs a little warmer (a good thing), closer to 85-87 degrees C.

Why not get the BMW filter housing with the hookups for a cooler as well as the built in T stat? Or have CA do the kit with the BMW filter housing. Even if it costs a few dollars more, you shouldn't need any solenoid, making the whole thing cheaper.
If it is "600", check the conversion. I think the dollar has been doing better lately, so it may be a reasonable deal. Don't forget labor to install when computing total costs.

Jerry
