Icelink installation is done (PICS)

Special thanks to Tom from right here on our forum for all of his help via e-mail, PM, and phone in getting my v1.0 upgraded to v1.1 and sending the correct cable when they forgot to send it originally.

Took me longer to find a good source of switched power and to route the wires into the cabin than to actually connect the hardware

Here are some pictures of the installation and wiring. The only thing that gave me trouble was that the car's DSP had to be re-intialized after the installation and connections were all done, but Tom walked me through it on the phone and it works great.

I don't have a picture of the iPod mounted yet because I'm waiting on one final piece (arrives tomorrow - will update this thread with pictures at that time) to show up so I can do that, but here is the meat of the installation. Let me know if you have any questions:

Here is where I tapped into the car's wiring for switched power:

Raw backseat wiring:

Finished backseat wiring (NOTE: I know the wire is showing - but it is a B***H to get that carpet out so I decided to cut my installation time for the time being. I left it easy to fix in the future, if I get interested in doing that):

Where I velcro'd on the ADC and the Car-specific adapter:

Almost done in the trunk:

Very nice .... Looks good so far.

Does this mean you've given up the changer ? What about DSP ? Are you able to control the Ipod through the nav system and/or steering controls ?

Re: Icelink installation is done (PICS)

Who needs a changer when instead of only six CDs of mine, I can have all 200+ at my fingertips?

It plugs into the DSP directly, and you use the steering wheel controls to skip forward or backward through your playlist, or fast forward or fast reverse in the current song.

Hoping they come out with ID3 tag support in the future

Final installation picture (my ProClip took a lot longer to arrive than I thought):

Re: Icelink installation is done (PICS)

I noticed that you ran the cable over the middle hump on the floor in the back. I s the cable not long enough to route it under the plastic molding by the doors?

Re: Icelink installation is done (PICS)

It may be long enough, but the problem was how to get it from the center console to the side of the car. I don't want to remove the seat, and I don't think (but perhaps - I don't know) it would have enough room to go under the dash, over to the side, and all the way back. This took a lot less time than any other way, and I'm happy with it for now. I don't sit back there anyway, and I'm not trying to win any car shows for the installation

Pics?

Anyone have the pics from Redshift's original post (and follow-up)? They're gone!

I'm about to do some iPod integration action on my 2001 M5 (digital DSP) and would love all the info I can get...

Thanks,

Brian

Brian, here you go. My setup is nowhere near like this any more, this is years old at this point. I now use a DICE Silverline and have the iPod stored in the rear cargo area instead of up front. The D/A converter is still wired in place just like this, however.

Yay! You still have them!

Thanks a bunch. I'm doing the Intravee II w/ the Alpine KCA-420i and a DICE A/D converter for the DSP digital connection. It's all easy except for the power source for the A/D converter. Looks like you tapped a white wire going into the amp? I've read other recommendations to tap from a purple wire w/ white stripe, but I looked around for a bit and couldn't find a purple w/ white stripe. So many freakin' wires!

Thanks very much,

Brian
