Hi Guys,
Okay, here's the deal. I spoke with the Dinan corporation today, regarding our Dinan 3.45 rear diff. group buy event. As you guys are aware of, a couple days ago, I wrote a rough draft version of how the group buy sales transaction/procedure will take place, well forget what I previously wrote about, because DINAN has improved and simplied the way we will do business with them.
Since my last post, Dinan needed a few days to think things over ( regarding our group buy event) and so, they came up with the following:
Here is the way you will be in, on the Dinan rear diff. group buy.
You are to supply me with your full (REAL) name, reliable mail address and your reliable contact telephone number. Once I get ALL of your requested info., you will then be placed on the Dinan Group Buy list. When the list is complete, this group buy list will be sent/forwarded to Dinan in California. When they get the group buy customer list, Dinan will then mail to you an official DINAN certificate, which will state your name and that the certificate is a voucher for a $500.00 cash rebate back to you. Once you get the certificate, you will go to your local Dinan authorized dealer to buy/get your 3.45 rear diff.
The authorized Dinan dealer will supply you with the rear diff, They will install it for you, and the Dinan dealer will keep your stock core. So, you will not have to hassle with, sending your credit card info. to Dinan, waiting for the rear diff. to be mailed to you. You will not have to deal with the hassle of, putting the stock core into the original sent crate, and returning the core back to Dinan located in California, nor will you have to deal with paying for return shipping freight charges. Because of this, you will not be charged the $1800.00 core deposit fee and will not have to wait to get the $1800.00 core credit for having shipped and returned the stock core back to Dinan.
ANY COMPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED!
Once you have your rear diff. installed by the Dinan dealer, you'll get your "paid invoice" from the dealer. You'll make a cpoy of the paid statement, include this paid invoice along with your DINAN $500.00 REBATE CERTIFICATE, and mail it to Dinan headquarters. Once they get your mail, they will then cut you a check for $500.00 in your name, and mail it to you to your supplied address.
VIOLA.............. you now have your Dinan group buy discount, costing you $2500.00 for the rear diff.
Honestly it can't get better than this!
Now, as proof of the $500.00 rebate/discount, Dinan is sending me the above mentioned information from Dinan to my E-mail address, stating exactly what I've just mentioned. So, to any skeptics out there, they are and will be keeping there word for the $500.00 rebate/discount. You should make a photo copy of Dinan's $500.00 rebate certificate once it arrives to your mailing address, a copy of your paid statement for the rear diff. installation job, and last I'll have the letter confirming all of the above, sent to me from Dinan as their legal and binding commitment to us about this group buy. I was told that once you get your $500.00 rebate certificate, you are NOT OBLIGATED in ANY way to buy the rear diff. You can still cancel should you choose to do so. Your not locked into anything. Its up to you.
In my humble opinion, this is a HUGE jesture by DINAN to accomidate us M5 enthusiasts, who belong to WWW.M5BOARD.COM.
As far as Im concerned they are doing the RIGHT THING, to hook us up!
Now, rgarding the availability of the product, I was told that the rear diff. will not be ready until MID DECEMBER. Dinan wants to make sure their product is 100% to their standards, so they have to do some testing on the rear diff. and its parts. In the mean time, you guys have to supply me with the requested information and I have to get it to Dinan and they have to mail you the Dinan $500.00 rebate certificate, so the timing is actually good, from a logical point of view.
NOTE: Only you can use the certificate, so please don't give it to someone else or try to sell it, as in the case of the Dinan badges. This will piss off Dinan and this will only hurt us with our group buy objective and future group buy plans/events with Dinan.
If this works out, then more will surely come from Dinan.
I can't be more specific about future possibilities/plans but as soon as I get the green light from Dinan, I'll let all of you know what is next.

Hey Robert! This is GREAT news, especially for me as I was not looking forward to dragging the diff. 120 miles to my dealer to get it installed. This is MUCH easier! Thanks!

Robert, really good news. Thank you for hanging in there and not giving up. I must admit I was about to drop out based on the previous arrangements. This is a much better way to go, and it includes the local Dinan shop which I think is good. I'll send my info to you via e-mail.

Question, if I recall correctly, the "original" Dinan Group Buy was to include other items such as the headers, CAI, MAF, etc. Any change of these other items being part of this, or a separate, group offering?

Hey Robert ... This is really good news for th0ose of us are going to have an Authorized Dinan Dealer do the install ... No Doubt you will be asked ... HOW do the members who either want to do the install themselves OR have their own private shop due their install ... There are 2 ... Read them TWO very important questions:

How do THEY get the $500 re-couped??

How and where will they be getting the 3.45 Differential from and where will it be sent to?

I think those are 2 very valid questions ... and ... although Dinan has made it a little easier for us who are having the Diff installed by a Dinan dealer ... It will be a hradship on those who are not ... UNLESS of course ... Dinan has thought about this as well BUT has just failed to inform you of the procedure.

Oh Robert ... One more thing ...

If a Dinan Dealreship already has a Dinan 3.45 Diff on stock ... Can we go purchase that 3.45 Differential and then wait for the $500 Dinan voucher from Dinan and then mail that voucher back to Dinan to get the refund? In that case ... the Member would NOT have to wait until Mid-December or later to get his Differential installed.

Robert ... All in ALL I think this can work out. I must say on Dinan behalf ... doing it this way ... He has kept his Dealers in the loop and they will NOT lose out on any potential profit.

I understand your question. So, lets start off by saying my previous post which described how the Dinan rear diff. sales transaction would take place, is version #1. This newest thread which describes an alternative way to do business with Dinan is version # 2. When I first posted version # 1, I recieved a TON of complaints from various M5 members that the sales procedure was way to complicated. I agreed with these members. Dinan must have also realized that the original sales procedure way much to complicated, so they "on their own" re-vamped and seriously improved the way we will buy their rear diff. Once the newer & better sales method was explained to me, I was all for it, since I know first hand how many complaints I recieved from you guys about the original sales method. So, what Im saying is Dinan is sticking to the newest "revised" sales methos, as described in the beginning of this thread. The original method is no longer and out the door.
To answer your questions,
Can a customer have the rear diff. delivered to another place other than getting it from a Dinan dealer, answer is no. You can only get it from your local authorized Dinan dealer. So, if you don't buy the rear diff. from an authorized Dinan dealer, there will be no other way to get it, so you will not be able to use the $500.00 rebate certificate. Last, the $500.00 rebate is ONLY good for Dinan's newly manufactured .345 rear diff.s and NOT for their existing "older" rear diffs., which would have actual BMW parts from older BMW cars rear diffs.

You can't use the rebate certificate for an existing "off the shelf" rear diff., from an Dinan dealer! You'll have to wait until mid December, which is approx. the time frame when the new rear diffs. will be ready & available for sale to us.

I am sure for the most part ... this NEW sales program to keep the Dinan Dealers "In the Loop" and not out any sales profit ... will work for most members ... BUT ->

I DO have a couple more questions that does not necessarily apply to me BUT ... I am sure that the 1st question applies to ALL members and the 2nd will apply to some of the other purchasing members:

1.) What, if any, Are the physical differences between, what you refer to as the "Dinan's Older Differentials" and "DINAN'S NEWLY BUILT 3.45 REAR DIFF."??

I understand that a member MUST purchase the Newly Built Differential from a Dinan Dealer and assuming that that transaction does take place ... THEN After the member purchases that Differential and He/She leaves with the Diifferential in hand; THEN ->

2.) What does that member do or what would be his/her procedure be to receive CASH for his/her $500 Rebate Voucher ... IF he/she wants to install the "Newly Built Differential" themselves or at his/her favorite performance shop?

Starting off with question # 2, you will ONLY be able to get/buy the Dinan rear diff. from a authorized Dinan dealer. So id this is the case, how would you get the rear diff. and bring it to someone else other than having it installed at the local Dinan dealer. You won't be able to do the install yourself or at another auto shop. Aso, even if that were to be permitted, you would not have any warranty coverage from Dinan in the event something went wrong with the inan rear diff. Its only warrantied if the customer has the installation done by a Dinan dealer/shop.
Last, reagarding your first question, there is no difference between the newly built rear diffs and the older ones, except that the older ones have actual BMW internal parts, which are taken from older model BMW cars that are probably no longer in service. The newly built rear diffs have no true BMW parts, since the previously required BMW parts are now made by a auto parts manufacturer for Dinan. I hope I've answered your questions.
