2k for the rod and pistons
2k for the cams
2k for the head work
2k for the headers
1k for the race cats
1k for the ecu tuning
and 2k for the work
so thats 2 s/c kits for the price of 1 pure N/A animal motor
you forgot the cost of sleeves, pressing in sleeves, honing the block, and decking the block. not to mention all the parts that need to be replaced when you open up an engine like all the gaskets, bearings, and seals. thats a cool 5k right there.

Update on my post-Evolve-header-installation exhaust/catalytic converter leak -- please reference this post ( Evolve LHD 4-1 "Medusa" Headers - GROUP BUY ) for history. In a nutshell, one of my cats is cracked and the headers welding to the INSIDE diameter of it allows it to leak.
I had a specialty exhaust shop (Hanksville Hot Rods, Littleton, Colorado) build a sleeve and TIG weld it to seal the headers to the OUTSIDE diameter of the driver side catalytic converter. Good news! It seems to have completely sealed the leak! FYI this ran around $170.
Please note this is not a defect in any way with the headers. This was a defect in one of my catalytic converters that, by the nature of how the headers connect to them, was not revealed until they were put on. Minor inconvenience and quite comical to hear the car for the few weeks I waited for the specialty shop appointment. (Imagine EVERY person you pass looking at this beautiful sedan that sounds like a loud-as-hell drag racer muscle car ).
I've had the headers and tune for several hundred miles now. Impression: without Sport mode on, so normal operation, the car feels more potent all across the RPMs. Torquey down low just like stock, but it feels more 'fluid' now, not nearly as 'stepped' as it did stock. Throttle is MUCH more responsive -- almost like Sport mode was stock, but without the artificial 'jerky' on/off throttle tip-in. So basically it's almost MORE manageable for daily driving, yet seems to have more power all around and is smoother in its delivery of it.
With Sport mode ON there is only one way to describe accleration: RELENTLESS. It's almost disturbing how the motor pulls now with this button turned on! Fantastic.

Has anyone installed these on a 540? I've been through a big chunk of this thread and don't see any reference to the possibility of an M62 application for Medusa.

They will bolt up to the M62 however the jury is out on horsepower gain.
You might have problems finding a tune to optimize your gain, though.. Anyone?
It is indeed real expensive to do and there are just alot of people who won't supercharger. I personally like the supercharger route but having produced quite a few high powered S62 now and had alot of time on the road with them, there is a certain charm to having a high powered NA motor.
I cant wait to get a ride when I come over to the UK

I'm guessing many of you know a whole lot more about this than I do, but why is the jury out? If the exhaust headers are restrictive on both the M62 & S62, I would think there are similar gains to be had.

I was merely stating that I don't believe there have been any tests to confirm actual gain on the M62. I would guess it would be proportional to your original specs as with the S62. Roughly 8-10%? with a healthy engine + tune. Only guessing though..
