vanos problem

hi ...i have m5 e39 and i have the rattle sound coming from right side of the engine and they told its the vanos and i need the change the whole unit and its gonna cost about 5000$ ....i need some advice here is there a cheaper way to fix it ??? thanx

Many times it is only the solenoids that need to be replaced; they can be tested once she is hooked up to the GT-1.

FYI it is a circuit board with 4 solenoids on it and if this is the case then it is a relatively easy and inexpensive fix
