e39 Engine Warning Light

Hi Guys, just taken delivery of a mint 2001 with 40K miles on clock. Had a BMW Main Agent change engine oil yesterday and this morning (cold start) the engine warning light has come on (Yellow). Its in for a check at the same main agent next week. Runs fine although tail pipes seem a little black. Any ideas / suggestion? Thanks Paul

Check for a loose fuel filler cap. (Can trigger the SES light)

If that doesn't solve it then get the codes pulled by the dealer or a good Indy.

Odds are it will be a sensor (O2 or CPS) maybe a MAF.

As the car normally runs rich on start up you should be okay
and black tail pipes is normal, unless you take a bit of elbow
grease to them and polish them up. As long as you don't have
a permanent smoke trail you should be fine.
