Hi Hiro,
It's been 10.000 miles later now and the problem hasn't worsened. My BMW even had a service at an official BMW-garage and they didn't notice anything special. The pedal still feels a little odd at times but has no effect on the driving itself. At times I even wonder if it's really that different than when I first drove the car.
Looking on the internet I found some information about how BMW designed it's pedals and it seems that small lateral movement is quite normal. The pedal is mounted on two rubber bushings. These can wear out with time. Maybe they could snap when hard pressure is put on the pedal (could be for safety reasons in an accident).
I also found some information on the internet that alternative harder bushings are offered for about $20. These are mainly used for track-driving when combined with a longer pedal-stop. Because of lateral movement on the pedal, normal bushings could have the pedal end up next to the pedal-stop.
I guess that what you are experiencing now is the same feeling I first had after my emergency-stop. But as I said I started getting used to it because it doesn't really affect the driving.
In your case, because the possible damage was probably inflicted at the dealer you may go back there and ask their advice. Replacing the bushings should not be expensive parts-wise but it's a time-consuming job, so it should rather be costly.
Hiro, I hope this update may have brought you some new info. Good luck.
