E39 540 - New Member - Pics

Hi all,

I'm a new member to the board and purchased my 540 in May.

I appreciate most of you are M5 owners, but have learned great deal from this board and would like to say "great job!"

I have carried out the following in order:

new h/lights, rear lights and grill
rebadged the boot
new sport front/rear bumper and rear spoiler
M5 mirrors and interior mirror
uprated the suspension
new wheels and tyres
and unfortunately I've just had to fit a new radiator

I have tried to stay with a standard 540 sport look.

Re: E39 540 - New Member - Pics

Hi, the parts are as follows:

Grille - Eurocarparts - £30

Front/ Rear bumper + fogs and all trim/ fixings - Sytner BMW - £1100

Rear Lip spoiler - Eurocarparts - £40

Wing mirrors (copies - fully functional bar dimming) - Ebay £250
although I saw some genuine ones for £300 about a month ago

Interior mirror - Ebay - £100

Wheels - 18" 8J front, 9J rear - Rochford tyres Ebay £600

I did look on ebay for the bumpers for a while, but ended up buying new from BMW, however I have seen a few on there recently!!

I read many posts regarding non-genuine wheels and was apprehensive, but for the price I thought if they were no good then they're virtually throw away money - I've been running on them for 4 months and they are spot on!! tyres were a little steep though.

In addition, I've added new front and rear lights, indicators and uprated suspension.

cheers,
Alex

Re: E39 540 - New Member - Pics

thanks!!!

the skirts came on the car, it had some factory Aero kit when I bought it.

I could have had the M5 bumpers at the same price, but went for the sport, ones... I did look on ebay for the bumpers, but bear in mind the ones I bought from BMW came with every single piece listed on the parts system, front and back... and there were loads, beleive me... you can always buy any missing bits afterwards I suppose.

Although I like the shape of the interior mirror and wing mirrors, I'm trying to avoid being an "M5 lookalike"... I rebadged the car with 540i as it didn't have one when I bought it.

I haven't decided what to do about the exhaust yet, again trying to avoid the M5 lookalike style, I'd thought about 2 single pipes, one on each side, but I may just go for the sport box.

I'm from Sheffield, which is where Quarry motors is, they are good on price!!

I went with just the wheel option from Rochford, as the tyres were budget (IMO) and believe you should always get the best you can with tyres... they do a tyre upgrade option, but it worked out cheaper to get them from my friend.

My friends owns a garage (just round from Quarry Motors), so I get all my bits/ tyres at trade.

Alex
