Post Can anyone please give me any advice on the asking price of 2 used E39 M5

As many of you are certainly more knowledgable about E39 M5 market prices than I am:

1. 2001 E39 M5 Complete Dinan S3 package with 18k miles, owner's asking price $65,000
2. 2002 E39 M5 Complete Dinan S2 package and Installed ESS supercharging Kit with 63k miles, owner's asking price $35,000

Do either, neither or both of these offers seem fair to you? Thanks in advance for your input.

Ya the second one looks like a better deal. With the S3 your bound to run into a lot of problems

Neither, as I prefer to buy the best kept car I can find- almost the one historically driven by the little old lady from Pasadena. Second would be a one owner driven by a wealthy individual that has a whole stable of great cars and the money to keep them all in top notch ALL ORIGINAL condition. Of the two choices you stated, I agree that #2 is better, but my fear is that anyone who installs such horsepower magnifying components would be an idiot to not try out himself on numerous occasions and how many occasions was the driveline stressed would be unknown. I would much prefer finding the all original pristine version that passes a PPI and then YOU have the power goodies installed such that you would know just how it has been driven in the 500 H.P. plus category. Since you are even asking about two cars, one approaching the price of a new M5, I must assume you can afford either and therefore find a nice platform car and have the mods done by professionals to YOUR satisfaction. In either case, you will have a ton of receipts to look at, but will have to take certain aspects at the owner's word and you will likely never know the true reason seller is getting rid of after making the car so "hot". The clutch is highly suspect as even aftermarket clutches that can hold the power will be in various states of remaining health and they can be a bear to drive even for fun. On the flip side just for an example, a 340H.P. C5 vette can be had for cheap and modded for $25,000 that will feel streetable, hold second gear to 93 MPH with 4 more gears to go, and yield 30 MPG on the freeway as the air resistance can never be changed significantly. You can get this C5 in the low 11s with heads, cam, intake, headers, and not much more. I'm dead serious. I ran 11.28 at Denver raceway at 3500 feet above sea level with nothing but hand head porting/polishing, cam, headers, and dyno tuning. Different car, but I'm just saying depends on what kinda thrill you want. M5 could likely hold its own against vette, but for much more money. Forget back seat passenger and forget ever going to the same race track and making more than one low 11 second pass without politely being asked to not return until you had trans splatter shield and a roll cage! First trip is on them till they figure it out! Eventually ran that same vette in 9.90 class with all original body panels. Ever drive an AMG? BMW is best of both worlds, but most expensive to mod as well.

Interesting

It depends I'm on my 6th BMW do u want a tuned car or do u want the joy of modifying yourself.. Only you can know that, but 35$ k seems like the better of the two deals.. I just got mine for $14,500 it's a 2000 model year with 98000 miles... Very good condition ... No mods... I get to do my own

The second is decent, but I think you can still get the price down. I wouldn't break $30,000 though.
