How to set / fix Tyre Pressure Control Monitor in E39 M5

Hi, i previously had problems with my Tyre Pressure Control Monitor in my 2001 e39 m5 but now i have fixed it. So if yours is not working here is some useful infornation on how to fix it:

Firstly, turn the key to ignition (do not start it).

Secondly, hold the tyre pressure control button down for approximately 5 seconds (keep it pressed, do not let go). Then when it comes up on the OBC or computer "set tyre pressure" then you can let go.

Lastly, once you have let go of the button you can start the car and drive it around for a bit for it to set the tyre pressure control monitor.

IMPORTANT: If it comes up on the OBC or compter "tyre pressure control inactive" then follow the instructions above. If you have the car started and press the tyre control button it will say "tyre pressure control inactive" automatically and you have to follow the instructions above again to set it.

I hope this helps. Thanks

If everytime you press it it comes up as "tyre pressure control inactive" then that means there is a fault. It could be that one of your sensors from the wheels do not work.

TPC works from the ABS sensors constantly monitoring the revolutions of the wheel. If one loses air the revolutions of the wheel drop and the sensor lets the TPC know flagging up the message.

For a long time i thought mine was faulty as there were no monitors/sensors attached to the wheels. Thought it was wierd that every time there would be a slow puncture.

A post put that right for me in the e39 discusssion.

Does anyone know the threshold for this to become active? I had a slow leak and it didn't go off till <20 psi is that normal?

Ok, this post was started a while ago but there have been a few posts lately. I have the same problem when I hit the tyre monitor button where it says its not active. I did the key turn and hold down button but no set pressure message. When I turned the key back to the first position after being in the ignition position I see it popped up. From there I started the car, drove around and turned off. When I got back in later I started the car and got the same old message. Am I performing the steps correctly? Do I have bad sensors?

I also tried to go to the first key position and it wouldnt pop up the message, only when I go to ignition position hold for 5 let go turn back one click to position one and then start the car.

Any tips send them my way...
