Re: UUC Short shift

I'd like to re-register my interest in this (dependant upon price and when it actually happens), the SSK and the DSSR.

Still haven't got to the bottom of my transmission problems, but I'm probably going to do this at the same time.

Keep us updated.

Please look at this Group Buys thread for more information on the group buy short shifts.

Thanks

Re: UUC Short shift

as per UPS a parcel 'said to contain' a complete EVO 3-set and a DSSR
was delivered to my work last Thursday - now I have a good reason to look forward to go 'back to duty' after a three weeks vacation -
the idea is to fit the entire set BEFORE and FOR the BMW-Club 20th-anniversary track-meeting on the 'Knutstorp-Ring' (South-Sweden) on Aug. 13th/14th - new 'steel-flex' brake-lines, a brake-fluid-change AND the UUC
EVO 3-shifter together with the DSSR will hopefully make a BIG difference
'on the track' (am I dreaming ?

Re: UUC Short shift

Have just read this thread, and it put a smile on my face, especially the conversion of Dollars into Pounds, like the Evo III and Dssr Rail, at about $345.00 and $125.00 respectively, where going to be about 230.00 or so pounds.

Afraid your wrong.

How do I know, well I have a Evo III Short shift kit plus Dssr Rail all fitted on my E39 M5, and short and sweet it is.

Would I have paid nearly 490.00 pounds for it had I known, well as nice as it is, no, there are similar kits available, have just fitted the Rougue Kit to an E30 M3 project car, and its just as nice, and works just as well.
That was 275.00 pounds all in.

Why the cost increase, well you start with $345.00 plus $125.00 then you add shipping which given the weight was yes, $140.00, so now were at $610.00 and just about able to warrant it, being about 390.00 pounds.
But along come UPS or Fed Ex, to deliver it to us Brits and they surcharge with Import and Duty, about 21% of the total price of the customs invoice, so add another 80.00 odd pounds, plus their customary handling fee which is about 20.00 for something like this and hey presto, 230.00 pounds has become 490.00 and it ain't even on the car yet.

Nice kit yes it is, very well made and with a super finish and fit.
Value for money, that depends on where you live in the world and where your buying it from.

The only time it has been cost effective for me to purchase an item in the USA and bring it back, was with a Turner MotorSpots Alu Flywheel, which even with all the add on's, was still about 100.00 pounds cheaper than I could have got one in the UK or Europe.

So while Rob at UUC has superb products, Group Buys should always factor in the 'real' costs.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I suggest reading the group buy thread left on the E34M5 forum.
These points as you quite rightly state , have also been made there about this particular style of shifter & the pitfalls of bringing them economically in to the UK.
We got the EVO 111 shifter & DSSR for £285 ish to Bobs Shack.
I have been in touch with HM Customs & Excise & there will be no duty to pay as we purchase from within EU with only £18 odd quid postage on top.

BTW
Fedex should all be burned at the stake.
They are unscrupulous wa*kers who take the p*ss.

Regards
Farrell

Re: UUC Short shift

Hi Farrell,

For sure EU purchases are always going to make sense instead of Stateside products.

Where the F**K is Bob's Shack, ?

Sounds like a Swamp Bar we use to visit in Sarasota Fl. on Friday nights and get totally wrecked at.

CA-Automotive who sponsor, could I imagine, do a GB on a SSK and Dssr Rail, did anyone try them ?

Interested to see how this works out, Fed Ex are a Great Company, it's when they stary from the Motherland that the problems begin !!! Lol.

Regards,

The Gorilla.
